Had the special... Cobia from Hawaii. nice flaky oily fish. The veggies were not cooked enough and were definitely under seasoned. The chocolate cake was insanely sweet. I had to scrape off all the chocolate ganache. Value is only ok... Service was good but not great. Luckily I met a nice could at the next table that made the lonely traveler feel welcome.

Decent. Almost 4 stars Nothing amazing but nothing bad from our lunch experience. Waiter was friendly. Hostess was very friendly. Crab stuffed mushrooms were fair, as were the oysters we sampled. I might return to dive deeper into the seafood menu.

A great burger for lunch. Blue cheese was outstanding flavor. Fresh fish and other specialty dishes looked great. Excellent service and food was quick. Making this a 'go-to' spot whenever in town! Ask for a young waiter named Thaddius. Great name, great service.

This has to be the best breakfast in the Mountain States. Everything is fresh, plentiful, beautiful and delicious. A wide variety of options including the #4: two pancakes, choice of meat (sausage, bacon or ham slice), choice of potatoes (hash browns, sliced or broiled tomatoes, or Market Street potatoes), one egg however you like it, FRESH squeezed oj or grapefruit juice (if you order this off the combo it will cost you nearly half the price of the combo...and worth it at that as you may get to see it being squeezed while you are watching your food being prepared), beverage and if you have room in your stomach left, your choice of toast or muffin. all of that for under ten smacker-os! There is off street free parking; on-street metered parking doesn't start charging until 8:00 a.m.. I enjoy sitting at the counter where you have full view of the kitchen and all its processes. Including watching your own meal being cooked if you watch for it! They have a table behind glass walls if you are having a power breakfast meeting. Today I splurged with broiled Salmon and Egg Benedict. Yum! Also you can have pork chops, steak and egg or waffles. I have never been disappointed. Servers are well trained, friendly and helpful. If you do a survey from your receipt you can get a dessert on a future visit and you will benefit from joining their frequent diners program! If you are going to be a regular anywhere, this place will propel you to the top of the breakfast 'A' list!

Stopped in for breakfast while on vacation with my husband. The omelettes were wonderful, and I especially liked the wheat toast with the raspberry jam. The bread comes from a local bakery and is amazing. The coffee, however, was not so great. Otherwise, a very enjoyable breakfast. Wish we'd had a chance to try it for dinner. The decor really put me in the mood for seafood.

Love having the option of fresh seafood when I'm not even close to the coast!! This place was a blast and I got stuffed on crab legs which was a dream come true! I recommend the Au Gratin Potatoes, sabayon for dessert and duh- CRAB!!

The nicest people from the moment we walked in until we left, and the food was great. Mostly seafood from appetizer to main course. Lots of cheating on diet (like a good friend says), but it was worth it!

Everything started great. We were about 30 minutes early for our reservation and were seated quickly. Waiter brought water and some great sourdough bread and took our beverage and appetizer orders promptly. Drinks were delivered and were followed soon by the appetizers. We had the chilled shrimp platter and escargot. The shrimp were nice size, tender and perfectly presented with two sauces. The cocktail sauce was tasty but could have used some more horseradish. The second sauce was a creamy spicy sauce that went well with the shrimp. The escargot were served piping hot and the garlic butter was great. Next came the soup and salad. The clam chowder had a different spice profile than I am used to but I really enjoyed it. The salads were well prepared, fresh and properly dressed. It was after this that things went downhill. It took about 40 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Just about everything was overcooked. My fried shrimp and scallops were rubbery and the french fries were barely warm. One of my dinner companions broiled scallops were so over cooked you had to really stab them with a fork to get the tines to penetrate. 3 of the 5 entrees were sent back due to overcooking. The replacements were better but still not up to what should be expected considering the prices paid.

Amazing seafood! Rockefeller oysters & crab cakes are good. Service is exceptional. We didn't like the clam chowder, which is what they're famous for. It was extremely watered down. Everything else is great!

I was looking for a nice place to eat while travelling solo on business. I was told that the best thing about Utah is the weather and the worst is the food. I found Market Street to be exceptional. Fresh Oysters and nicely prepared and presented Seared Tuna complemented a very good 'wine by the glass' list. The waitress was pleasant on a quiet nite and late dining hours, even though I ate leisurely and did not hurry to leave - even while they were obviously preparing to close. I was not rushed.

WE LOVE THE BREAKFAST HERE!!! Their Hollandaise sauce is to die for. Seafood omelet only $8.99 on Fridays. The homemade raspberry jam is delightful, and the service, the extra measures they take to make it feel special are just awesome. It's always clean and top notch! Really, you spend less than Denny's, ihop or village inn!! We love it!!

$26 for an over cooked 6oz flat iron steak. Not my server dweeb brought steak out while I was eating my appetizer and salad. You would think for that kind of price one would get a roll with butter? Nope. The only bright side was my server Alicia.

I agree with many of the recent reviews, this place definately wasn't was it was in its heyday. Can't quite pin point it exactly, something's just off. And.. like everone else miss the good ol days and the always consistent quality and service. I remember knowing a few people that worked here in the late 90's-early 00' and they really took a lot of pride in their job and workplace. At the time I remember hearing it was hard to get a job here, like really hard. They seemed to be really picky about the staff then and weeded out only the best. That's not the vibe I feel here anymore and everyone seems to have a "whatever, it's a job" kind of attitude. Then there's the food, what has happened? It's not bad by any means, but for the price it's a little insulting at this point. The portions are smaller and seem to charge extra for things that we're used to and used to be free, cheesy mashed potatoes for instance. No cups of soup anymore really? The salads are pricey for low quality iceburg lettuce. I've been here several times recently with my family and they weren't that excited about thier entres either, medeocre poorly cooked salmon etc. The blackened Ahi is still very much on point and my favorite, cheers to that. The problem seems to be with management and lack of the passion that was once there. That fact that all these poor reviews are going ignored is a bit worrysome too. What, you made enough $ in the 80's-90's so now you just don't care? If that's the case then fine. Just adjust your prices accordingly and stop playing it off like you're the caliber that you once were, sadly those days are over. It seems like everyone including me are holding on to a nastolgic memory that has passed. Are we all just in denial and holding on to our memories of what once was?

Slow service and ask for high tips, and the menu pics doesn't match the food what exactly on the table. Terrible experience ever ever ever!!!!!!!!

I do not know what has happened to the downtown location. They used to have a consistently great breakfast but the last three times we have gone it was dismal. The Eggs Benedict are always overcooked, rock hard yolks, the english muffins were scorched black, seriously! I had the special crab omelet, came out without either avocado or Hollandaise. Was never a big fan of Market Street Potatoes, but they are even worse now, practically raw, no cheese, no flavor. Our server actually apologized for the steak when she brought it, you could see it was far too done. We will not be back.

First off the service here was awful. We arrived for lunch at 11:45 and were told that we couldn't be seated until noon because they were switching over from breakfast service to lunch service. After being seated we were approached by our waiter who had a serious attitude problem. We ordered and then about 20 minutes later our waiter approached the table. He explained to us that he could not put our order in for another 10 minutes due to "switching from breakfast service to lunch service". So at this point we have been at our table for 30 minutes and our order hasn't been placed in the kitchen. We finally get out food and it was nothing special. The grilled fish tacos were super greasy and only contained 3 tiny chunks of tuna. 98% of the taco was stuffed with cabbage and salsa. Yuck. Never eating here again

Really terrible food, super slow service, and ask more tips, the steak is dry and small! Overall, I won't come back again

I've always came to this place for dinner. This is my first lunch experience. The server was very nice but clueless. Immediately after sitting he asked if we we're ready, I requested a minute and he stood silently by the table. After I saw he d I don't move away to actually give me a minute I asked if he can come back in a minute after standing there. I ordered a mix greens salad to start and when I was presented with the plate that had a huge gap in the middle of lettuce. I asked if this was the usual presentation. He said yes there was nothing he could do. I'm usually not picky on presentations or even the lack of will this server had. I'm just astound a restaurant of the high caliber like market street would consider this acceptable. Not only this but shortly after leaving the meal he came to.drop the bill. I had only taken two bites of my meal! This is ridiculous! !

I've always been curious, and I finally went to try their Sunday brunch. Walking up to the restaurant, a loud, rude panhandler asked for money. Walking in, the atmosphere wasn't what I had expected. Although, it did feel like something on the pier, with no AC, humid air, white tables, etc.. felt more like a fish house diner. We sat down, the bread plates were filthy. A waitress came by with water and rolls (beware, the cinnamon rolls have orange in them. Most people like that, but I spit mine out. That's a me problem, not theirs) I asked her if we could have new plates, she scoffed and grabbed them from the table and tossed them on her tray. I asked how the Rancheros plate was, and she huffed again and said she didn't like it. Didn't offer an alternative, didn't recommend anything, just stood and stared. I said we would need a few more minutes to decide and she gave another scowl and walked away. We got up and walked out. I'll update the review when I try them again and can say something about the food. I'm sad we didn't even give it a try.

Looking for a great breakfast spot while in Salt Lake City. This place had good reviews so thought I would give it a try. The service and atmosphere are great and menu choices sufficient. However several disappointments. No bloody Mary's till 11:30??? Might as well wait till happy hour. Utah alcohol laws are sooo ridiculous! I chose the Maryland crab cake and eggs benny. It was hard to find much crab meat in the cake and all the flavor was of the breading. Word to the chef, if your going to try your hand at crab cakes put some crab in it!

I have to stop in here every chance I get when I am in town. I LOVE the clam chowder, sourdough bread, & the crab Louie with vinaigrette dressing not the traditional thousand island. I wish I could say I have tried everything else but I haven't swayed from my favorites here. I have always had exceptional service from the hostess and our server. We had Dean this last time in and he was on point. Thanks again for not disappointing once again!

I really do love this place, anytime i am in town i try to go. The downtown location is my favorite but the South Jordan location is a close second. The restaurant is clean, the staff is always helpful and the food is delicious. Everything i have ever eaten here has been top notch! Tried the Seafood Cobb Salad this visit, it was a flavor explosion in my mouth. For dessert I had the Raspberry Torte which is a favorite of mine. Market Street is a little on the $$$ side but worth every penny.

  • Molly N.

So based on their reputation and the (over)prices, you would expect a lot better quality of food. Basic French toast was soggy and under cooked. Service, coffee and atmosphere were great so that's where the 3 stars came in. The food should have been much better.

  • Michelle Y.

Horrible service! Waitress suggested I do "big" shrimp on my already expensive salad!!! Oh ya, let's just add $11 on top of everything...there are other oyster houses out here that are much better! Drinks took 20 minutes...we were out of oyster condiments and literally walked to the bar to get more. I've loved this place in the past but won't be coming back

A definite meh experience. We came here for lunch as a party of five, only after being told that the Melting Pot had a 30 minute wait. We instead walked into this spot and it was almost dead... But we were on limited time, so we grabbed a table. First off, the service was incredibly slow. It took 10 minutes to get drinks, and even then we didn't get the lemons we asked for. Then, the server came by to tell us about the daily specials, but then walked away from us even thought we had all put our menus down and were ready to order. Another 10 minutes had passed us before he came back, and then it took another 15 to get food out to us. By this time, I only had 8 minutes left to eat before I had to go back to my training class. Considering that the restaurant was dead, I really had no idea why the food took so long. Most of us had ordered salads, so when the server returned with food, he offered to toss them in a bowl to mix together the ingredients. While I understand that the chef wanted to present the salad in an aesthetically desirable way, it just ended up delaying our meal even further. I would say that my salad was good, but I had to eat it so quickly that I really didn't concentrate on how it tasted. I scarfed it down as fast as I could and bolted... And was still 10 minutes late to my class. Boo. I can't foresee coming back here when there are far better options around.

I'd give them 3.5 if I could. I mainly visit this place for their amazing clam chowder. It's a good deal & I've never had anything like it. Their seafood is just okay for a restaurant that's specialty is seafood. The service is surprisingly not that great being that they look like they always have twice the employees standing around than I think they should. Odd if you ask me!

Came here for an early breakfast. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. Only wished I had better things to say about their food. It was just ordinary breakfast fare. I got the hash with scrambled eggs. It came with a side of toast. Portions were generous tough. And it's located near the Trax and the main downtown drag. I got the impression that their lunches and dinners are probably better, so this review only applies to breakfast.

  • Sarah L.

I loved it there! The Salmon was amazing and my boyfriend loved the crab. The drink menu was great too. The staff was busy, but tried to be attentive. We could have gotten our drinks refilled a little quicker, but it was a Saturday night.

Last night while visiting Salt Lake City for a convention our group of 20 made reservations while o do understand that at times when a large group arrives that certain compromises must be expected. However I ordered for my meal one of the daily specials. A halibut Oscar entree. The halibut was dry and the crab meat was so over cooked to be Hard and stringy. The sautéed asparagus in the hollandaise was burned.

Ok, I've been coming to market street for years and have only that is was ok for all of those years. The last two times I've gone I got the shrimp tacos. They are phenomenal. Huge chunks of shrimp. This is for sure my favorite thing on the me use. The service is always great and it's always very clean.

pitiful service ran out of the two seafood selections i ordered. i then tried for steak and they screwed that up brought a 6oz char grilled, ordered medium snd 9oz with peas got asparagus . Basically all zeros if they had no stars. Manager definitely didnt understand customer service.Ok to top it off they can't even get a free desert right.( ice cream wanted vanilla got strawberry) .

I love Market Street Grill, especially this location! The breakfast menu here is far better than their other locations and they serve it daily. I just wish they served their delicious lemony rolls everyday too. I honestly don't care for their lunch or dinner menus, but the breakfast is definitely worth it! I also enjoy their clam chowder and ALL of their deserts. Be sure to save your receipt and fill out the survey for a free desert!

At one time this place was great; not sure what happened! Poor, slow service from the kitchen! Tons of employees but no one really helps you! Wtf! Came here twice just to make sure it was not just an isolated incident the first time....sorry to say...it was not; they are just bad!

Market Street Grill is on the expensive side and really did not deliver what I would expect for the price. We had the hot spinach, crab & artichoke dip for starters. I was actually pretty excited about this one, because I'd never had a spinach or artichoke dip with crab before. I would say that the dip was actually quite tasty, however, the tortilla chips that came with it were rather stale and tasteless. Bummer. For the main course, I had halibut and crab cake (this was from the special menu). I also had clam chowder and fries to go with that. The clam chowder felt rather watery with a over abundance of starch and a lack of clam. The fries were pretty average. The halibut was quite bland and lacked any taste at all, while the crab cake was ridiculously rich and over seasoned. Now about the service itself. Our waiter failed to bring us a drink menu for the longest time so we ended up asking again for it, and eventually just borrowed one from the neighboring table. Our waiter spent a good couple of minutes explaining just about everything on the specials menu and then some (it would have been nice to just take a look at the dinner menu before getting a earful of the menu). After we ordered, it took a good 45 minutes to an hour for our food to be prepared (we only had a table of 4, one dish just being a burger). By the time our main course was at our table, there were only 1-2 other tables remaining. Overall, definitely not a good experience. I expected much more for the price.

Service was horrible! Manager was put out that they took our resv down wrong, 8 instead of 7. 45 min for apps. Empty glasses all around. I had to bus our own table, Go get the wine list and find side plates. Ceaser salad was tasteless. Food overall was subpar at best. Crabcakes were all filling, no crab. By this point the waitress was openly aggressive and was practically throwing plates at our kids. No words were exchanged for the rest of the night. When the manager resurfaced after 2.5 hours he offered to buy us dessert. We declined, we just wanted to leave. Bad, overpriced food. Never going back.

This place is pretty great but you are better off making reservations.. We went in after a day at the hospital and wanted a nice dinner.. They told us 15 minutes max to be seated.. We waited about an hour!!! Watching other people come in after us and get seated before us.. They said they had reservations.. Well.. Then they should have told us we had an hour wait.. The hostesses seemed stressed and weren't in very good control of the situation.. Once we were finally seated we had an excellent server who was sure to pick up there mess.. I want to say I think her name was Michelle.. She said she was new to the area and had beautiful red hair.. But anyways.. She was very good at picking up there mess and made sure to be on top of it.. And honestly I've worked as a server for years and I can tell you she had excellent service and people skills! We ordered the salmon, prime rib and my mom ordered crab legs.. We also ordered a few bloody Mary's, tried there brews and had a bottle of there excellent wine and ordered there crab mushrooms for an appetizer! Everything was excellent! Food and service was great!

I've recently been back and had breakfast and brunch again. Looks like they updated the menu both price wise and dishes. The prices have gone up about $2 per plate. That kind of caught me off guard. For breakfast I had the Eggs Rancheros (aka Huevos Rancheros). Great flavors but not exactly 'authentic'. It came with juice and coffee. I have to say I did notice they have started watering down the OJ which was one of my favorite things to order since it was like squeezing an orange directly into my mouth. Now it's a watery orange. When I went back for brunch I tried the fish tacos and I was glad I did. Excellent. They come with a lot of toppings so they get a little hard to handle and tend to start falling apart if you don't hurry them along. A little messy but it was worth the effort. I'd eat those up again.

I find myself often wondering why I tried this place. Fresh seafood in SLC? Seems like an oxymoron, unless they fly it in every morning. I heard rumors that they did so I wanted to try the place out. I was sadly disappointed with my experience. I ordered shrimp appetizer, a seafood platter, and the clam chowder. The shrimp was so small, I could've ordered at least 2lbs of shrimp at the market for what I paid for them. The seafood platter all consisted of calamari, some fish, and shrimp. Yet, they all tasted the same, bland and pitiful, as if they were all cooked together with no respect for the individual pieces of seafood. The chowder was the only redeeming aspect to this place. Tasted salty and had generous portions of potato and clams. If I had known about the quality of the food here, I would definitely spend the money elsewhere.

I think I may need to order something different. Good food and pleasantly prepared. The chowder is always a hit.

I ordered a fruit tart 24 hours in advance for a birthday party. The service was excellent. They placed my order and said to arrive at noon the next day. I asked for a fruit tart. When I arrived the next day, my fruit tart was ready. However, when I opened the box I thought it would see an open face tart (you can see the fresh fruit on top) instead it looked like a cake with raspberries and vanilla pudding filling. I should of checked the tart before leaving but I didn't. I was a little disappointed by the tart. The tart cake creation was good. However, I wish it would of had more fresh fruit selection.

I had a team dinner here for a sales mtg in SLC. It's a lovely restaurant that caters to middle of the road cooking - steaks and seafood. I ordered some oysters and a seafood salad (bc I got there late and they told me that these two items would take the least amt of time). Overall, the meal was fine - nothing special. The service was also just fine. Not sure if I'd come back if I were back in SLC... I guess it's in a convenient location and they do have a front room that accommodates a large party like us (~24 ppl)

  • Beej C.

Had a breakfast here for the first time in years; we used to eat breakfast very regularly but stopped when there got to be more non-hotel non-chain choices in SLC and after several very undistinguished dinners. Room has not changed and that is good since it is a classic grill look. We ordered trout benedict and California omelet.. They seemed to take a long time, especially since restaurant on a Saturday midmorning was about 1/4 full, but seemed freshly prepared when they arrived. However, the benedict had no trout. This was remedied graciously with another whole serving but lets just say we had plenty of time to read the newspaper. We were in no hurry and the food was quite acceptable but the fact that at each relatively recent visit either food or service has fallen somewhat short does not prompt us to put Market Street back into regular rotation.

    (3)
  • Mike C.

The food is five star. But if you go for breakfast take your best "I have a lot of time to waste" attitude with you. Worst service consistently of any morning restaurant in the city.

    (3)
  • R C.

4 out of 5 Stars. Reason, no grape or strawberry jelly with breakfast. They only have raspberry which I can't stand. Add some other choices please!! Otherwise, great staff and food. I had the regular Eggs Benedict which was excellent.

    (4)
  • Marlo A.

Come here for breakfast. But arrive early if you aren't a fan of noise. Their eggs benedict and french toast is delicious! For lunch, I would definitely order the fish and chips. I personally think that they need to raise their prices, because the past 3 times I have gone in, I have been seated next to loud, trashy people (We all know the type, the ones that talk and laugh too loudly, openly insult and swear, and allow their children to scream/ throw food). Even before the loathsome customers have congregated to this place, I have never enjoyed how painfully slllooooooowwwww their service is. But other than those few annoying things, the food can't be beat!

    (3)
  • Saya S.

The food, as always, is excellent. A little pricey, but to go out every once in a while, it's not really a problem. I had the halibut, which was delicious. The only thing that was kind of annoying is that they seated us by the vents on the floor that rattle like crazy. We went during lunch time when the place was completely empty. We asked to get our seats changed and the waiter says: "oh yeah, we get complaints all the time..." Why did they seat us at the worst seats when the whole place was open? I don't really understand that. Also, the waitress was not very friendly or happy to be there.

The Good...There are power outlets at all of the booths. Service is friendly and fairly quick. Prices aren't too bad considering it is in an airport. The Bad...Food is a bit below average. We started with the spinach artichoke crab dip and it was super greasy and a really small portion. Next I had the clam chowder and as others have said, it is too peppery and has no clams. My husband liked his bacon bleu cheese burger and the cole slaw was actually not bad, but my crab cakes were all filler and very little crab and flavor. Fries were underseasoned, but the broccoli was steamed just right, so that was a plus. There are ton of other options in the airport, so I would recommend trying any of those before coming here. Unless you need a spot to hang out, then you can't go wrong with power outlets and a full bar :)

The first time I dined here (which was a while ago), I had come looking for a restaurant that served pheasant, and they had pheasant on their menu at the time, so I showed up palpitating with excitement. As my luck would have it, I was informed that they had just taken pheasant off their menu and were discontinuing that item due to issues with their supplier. Then, it took a long time for a server to come to our table to take our orders, and we were informed that the waitress who had been assigned to our table had accidentally cut her finger and had to be sent home, so we were assigned a different server, and hence the delay. I had started to think that just wasn't my night. But the rest of the dining experience was really good. I have since been back a couple of times, and have enjoyed my dinner each time. The Utah rainbow trout (less famous than its cousin from the neighboring state of Idaho) tastes really good, and so does that macadamia nut crusted Chilean sea bass. I would also recommend their crab-stuffed long fin tilapia. I believe they share the kitchen with their sister restaurant, the New Yorker, and you can also order certain items from the New Yorker menu while dining at Market Street Grill.

    (4)
  • Trish C.

Overall, the food was" meh". Crab stuffed shrooms were dry on the outside. Calimari was slightly undercooked. Chilean sea bass was panko breaded. (Not necessary). Hubby's salmon special was dry. Not really worth the bucks.

The best things I like about this restaurant are the sour dough bread, the service, iced tea, cosmos and the seafood cobb salad. The seafood cobb salad was yummy with shrimp, crabmeat, blue cheese and more. It was so good I came back for dinner. Dinner was just ok, though. Crab Cake 2 Stars - lots of flavor but too much breading. Clam Chowder 3 Stars - the flavor and consistency were yummy, but the clams were sandy and chewy. Halibut with crab and asparagus with bernaise. 2 Stars - the crab was stringy but in clumps like it was frozen and thawed out and pressed together. Not lump crab meat. The halibut was a small portion a lightly battered and fried. Tasted a little fishy. Overall it was a good experience and I would give them another try.

Years ago, (we're talking pre-SLC Olympics) I visited my brother, while he was going to school in SLC, and we would come here quite frequently. At that time, this was one of my favorite places in SLC (along with a long, defunct old school style french bistro - I think it was called Le Parisian, or something like that...) Then came the Olympics, and all the restaurants we were familiar with, and enjoyed raised their prices, and dropped their quality (including the Market Street group) Recently, my father and I passed through SLC on a road trip, and decided to try out Market Street Grill for brunch, hoping that it had returned to it's glory days of pre-olympics. While it's not quite as good as I remember, it seems to have improved since the last time I ate here (it's been quite sometime...) and does not offend me as it used to. Oh, their New England Clam Chowder, on our visit wasn't as good as they would have you believe... Pretty watery and bland...

Great lunch stop today for our group of 3. First time in and had a really good food deal. I had the swordfish special. Best fish I have eaten. Always prior, could never get any distinct flavor, but this had such. One of ours had a steak, but is was very so-so, and not to be repeated. Other had a sandwich which was great. Fab service from our waiter...maybe Kerry or Terry? Dessert was real good but not great, in our opinion.

This place is pricey and service is slow, but the food was decent. I would not object to eating here again, but would not go out of my way.

The halibut was decent. Seemed skimpy on the asparagus. Sauce was good but a little rich which kind of negates my reason for getting fish. Had I known the price in advance I would have opted out.

Has fresh seafood flown in daily. Great prices, good service and awesome fish. Crab cakes are to die for. Love this place and good food hands down

Two weeks ago I found myself at Dukes in Malibu. The wait was long, the customers all seemed like reality show participants, and worst of all, the food was marginally better than the cuisine at your neighborhood Applebee's. So, if one were to entertain the idea of matching seafood with city, one might likely choose the location within visible distance of the ocean. Here's where Salt Lake City throw a wrench in the logic. The clam chowder at Market Street was better than any I've tried within shouting distance of SF's Market Street. Beyond that, the bread was hot and timely, the salmon eclectically seasoned and the dessert large and, well, desserty. Service was fast and friendly (here's where SF and LA fail--unless it's the server's first week) and the bill far less than those found on the shores. of the Pacific. Also, and dammit, it's no small matter, no corkage fee. Booze and fish on a Monday night in Salt Lake City. Have I died and gone to my own planet?

I was told this was the place for fresh fish. If that's the case they should definitely get a new supplier. I had the muscles and several of the shells were unopened. Also the sauce was just water with a little onion. The service was lack luster so even that did not make up for the bad meal. Definitely not some place I will visit again

We made a reservation for May 2nd, (my son's graduation for 10 persons) over a month in advance for Market Street Broiler, a sister restaurant to Market Street Grill. The Broiler shut down April 1st. No one called to notify us of the closing. If our party numbers had not changed and we had not worked in the business before we would have probably NEVER called to kindly make the staff aware of the changes. "Kindly" key, operative word. The staff is RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!! from the phone service that answered when we called to inform them our party number had changed on (May 1st). Why? were not made aware of the closing of the Market Street Broiler. And to the man who answered on May 2nd. When we were were nice enough to let the staff know we were running 5 minutes late. The man who answered on the 2nd told us if we were later than 5 minutes they would have to give our table away to people who were waiting. When we arrived five minutes late, No one was waiting when we arrived. The hostess (who was obviously not happy to be working) snapped, and told us to "sit down" our table was not ready and they would come and get us when it was. We waited 10 minutes for them to prepare our table, the table that SO many people were waiting for. HA! Not only was this hostess rude when we arrived but when we left. I asked her to validate our parking ticket and she never even spoke to any of us. No, "thank-you for coming" or "thank- you joining us" or "have a nice evening" just a sour grouchy face. The waiter was efficient and the food was good. Dessert is not worth filling out a survey for. Horrible strawberry shortcake. Sara Lee makes better pound cake. If it was not my son's graduation and we were gathered with family and friends I would have made the staff and restaurant of my feelings then. waiter 4295 GIPP R check 823 tbl 24/1 May 2, '14 5:21pm

Went here for lunch a few weeks ago. My first impressions of the restaurant were spectacular. They have two different halves of the restaurant with two different interiors that the hostess forgot to mention to us before getting seated (I only say that b/c we would of liked to sit on the other side once discovering its existence 45 minutes into our meal). The service was spectacular! The young man was quick, polite, knowledgable, and funny all at the same time. Everything he recommended we tried and it was the best part about the meal. When my entrée came out I was disappointed. A few shrimp totally submerged in a bath tub of garlic butter (talk about a heart attack) and a large piece of garlic toast. Both had hair in them and at one point I was pulling a long thread from my teeth. I don't know why I didn't send it back, probably b/c I was already 50% done with the meal when I noticed it and was trying to leave for other plans on time. We did mention to our waiter that someone in the kitchen had a hair problem and pointed to the hair on my plate, he just laughed and said I know...no sorry no can I get you something to replace that...just a chuckle. Probably won't be coming back.

I grew up going to MSG and loved going there, but this specific location seems to have been going downhill recently; service was so slow and sloppy the last time I went that I don't think I'll be going back to this location. MSG, you can do better. Please improve your customer service and staff!

We use to really like this place, but ever since the recession in 2008, market street seems to be finding new ways to cut corners every year. First it was the bait and switch to frozen fish. But the clam chowder and homemade bread were still addictively delightful. Well, that was until now. No potatoes and only three small pieces of clam? Campbells is better... And the bread? Sysco frozen, no flavor or vibrant smell. Nothing left here... Too bad. Used to be a true SLC hotspot. Now just an embarrassment.

Do not spend money here unless you are extremely desperate. This was the only place we could find that could seat our party of 4 on a Friday night without reservations. Perhaps that was our first mistake. As it was, unfortunately this restaurant seated our party after about 5 minutes of wait time. Service is amazingly slow. My second mistake was ordering a Manhattan. It was a half pour in my glass and when asked the waiter said that was how it was made by the bartender; he assured me there was alcohol in it. Unfortunately, there was very little and a stiff drink would have lessened the pain of dining at this restaurant. My third mistake was ordering the "crab stuffed" cod for dinner. I falsely assumed that crab would make this cod taste good. Much to my dismay, nothing could make this cod taste good. The crab was sprinkled on top (not stuffed) and there were so many bread crumbs on top of the fish that made the dish crumbly, salty, and distasteful. We high tailed it out of there with a vow to never ever return.

I went here for a business dinner and the food was not bad. Our service was good and our waitress was friendly but I wasn't blown away by the food. I had the crab stuffed mushrooms which weren't bad, a salad (mostly romaine lettuce, with a couple cherry tomatoes and a couple cucumbers), and crab cakes. I'm no crab cake connoisseur, but it seemed that these were mostly filler. They do not have espresso drinks either. Ok, I realize that makes me sound like a huge snob, but they said they used to have them and managment decided to take the espresso machine out. Which seems like an odd decision to me because they offer brunch as well.

It takes a lot to make me not be happy but it happened here. Took hour and half to get table when host said it would be thirty minutes. Our waiter was not the most efficient not taking our drink order. He took twenty minutes to give us our refills. Took 1 and half hour for our food. The food was great tasting which was only good part of this visit.

Oh Market Street. I'm soooo disappointed. As a has been Salt Lake resident Market Street was a staple. We could always count on amazing oysters, fresh clam chowder, amazing fish and chips....and the list goes on and on. I never minded paying your high prices because I was never disappointed. This persuaded me to make an educated and well informed decision to put massive amounts of pressure on my parents who were in town for a few days. So much pressure they went kicking and screaming, but I assured them under no circumstance would they be sorry they made the choice. We took our party of 6 down the street and walked in like we owned the place, so excited to show off what used to be. The hostess said it would only be a 25 minute wait, took our phone number to send us a text to let us know when our seat was ready. I took my girls across the street to run around in the grass and play vs allowing them to run through your restaurant and play under the feet of your servers while they carried plates of hot clam chowder around. I thought it was safer for all of us. After playing in the grass for 40 minutes, I thought I may have given the hostess the wrong number. We walked back over, and our table was still not ready. After one hour and 30 minutes, our table was not ready. Finally I called another restaurant and they weren't on a wait. I was assured for nearly 2 hours the table that we were waiting on had paid and they were leaving. My suggestion is to either a) don't set false expectations when wait is obviously not 25 minutes to a person with 2 starving children. They might have began eating the paint off the walls if we would have waited any longer or b) turn your tables. Seriously you lost out on a party of 6, that was starving. My dad is a large man who puts down massive amounts of food. My dad and his black AMEX were there to spend some cash down while slurping oysters with his amazing daughter. Don't judge a book by its cover, he kind of looks homeless...I get it...but the man obviously hasn't missed a meal. I leave you with 3 stars because I so wish you would have been the 5 stars I knew you to be. Until next time Market Street.

The Alaskan king crab legs here were good, but $69.99 for two? C'mon, glad I wasn't paying.

I give them five stars because (1) very attentive service (thanks Daniel), (2) the welcome into the restaurant was nice and friendly, (3) the ambiance is what you really crave in a seafood restaurant - nicely done, (4) the reason your here, what a menu - I chose crab stuffed mushrooms, spinach salad, and Tilapia Picatta the best I've ever had, (5) I left wanting to come back again this week before heading home to Chicago.

Best sea food restaurant I've been to in Utah. Classy atmosphere. We had lobster prepared to perfection! And the service was impeccable but not intrusive. I've been missing seafood here in Utah, but I think I've found the perfect restaurant when I have a seafood craving. Expensive.

Whenever I come to town. And want more a casual experience I eat here. This side can be noisy at times because more kids here. When I want more fancy And relaxed I go next door to the bar. More quiet. Service is great at both. Also they have a $19.99 dinner which is only available the market street grill side. You get choice of salmon or prime rib. Comes with salad or soup. And you get dessert. Great deal. The prime rib is phenomenal! I'm originally from Seattle so I enjoy there seafood. Taste fresh every time. From the oysters, crab, fish that I've tried. This time I wanted to try breakfast ... Mon-fri 6:30am to 11am or sat 8am-12noon or Sunday brunch from 9am-3pm. The Alaskan crab Benedict is the best I ever had. Never had a seafood Benedict where they still give you Canadian ham on it. If you don't want they can replace with tomato slices instead. You get a choice of hash towns, breakfast potatoes or broiled tomato with parmesan on top. So yummy! Very reasonable price $14.99. Highly recommend

Came here tonight for dinner. We ordered the early bird special which included salad, salmon, vegetables, and ice cream dessert. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It melted in my mouth. Slightly crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. I got caramel ice cream. A great finishto the meal.

We really liked this restaurant. Nice atmosphere, we were seated after a short time (on a Saturday night) and were promptly greeted by our server. We were happy with our Calamari starter. My martini was the tiniest one I've ever had but oh well..Husband loved his clam chowder, my caprese salad was divine. Main course: Husband's trout: perfect. My planked salmon: sadly overcooked I only took a couple of bites. Accompanying brussel sprouts were hard as a rock (undercooked, to say the least). Nicely pointed this out to the server. We got 1 free dessert (that we didn't want!). We don't live in Salt Lake City, but if we did I would give them another chance.

Market street Grill has always been my go to, special treat, breakfast place. I've always loved the classy downtown feel, the eager-to-please professional waitstaff, and well prepared food at reasonable prices. The Crab Omelet offered everyday but Sunday is exceptional. It is not available for Sunday brunch, (I asked) and its counterpart, the Seafood Omelet is no rival. It's tasty, but deceiving. The "crab" in it is actually "Krab" AKA Surimi, which I actually like. I just want to know what I'm getting when I order. The brunch portions are small, but you do get complimentary cinnamon rolls. I always order my omelet lightly cooked, and these chefs actually know what that means. Our server was a bit anxious to clear off our table, while we were still eating, though the place was not even busy. That was a bit strange. I think he was just bored. All in all, a respectable place to eat breakfast that won't stop your heart when the bill comes.

Went to the restaurant supposedly good for seafood. The waitress was not very helpful going over the menu and when I decided to try the halibut I was told it was sold out. Lousy service, had to wait 20 min between appetizer the clam chowder and the entree, the Chilean seabass. Had to ask for some bread. The place was busy but service could have been better. The food was ok but not great. The place has just been around for too long and is in need of a makeover.

We were anticipating a good experience as the group dined at another Market Street Grill ( 2985 E Cottonwood Pkwy) and enjoyed it. I am sure on a different night the outcome could be better, however The good: - central location downtown - easy parking (2$ per hour or Valet service) The bad: - service was very slow and inattentive - clam chowder was missing the main element - pepper steak was just OK - fries where not good - jumbo shrimps where small

I have gone to Market Street many times before and always enjoyed it so when I found myself in Salt Lake the other day I thought it would be nice to stop in for lunch - I was wrong. We waited over 10 minute to be greeted or even brought water - in fact just as we were about to leave the hostess walked by so we asked her if she could get us some water. When the server came over with water (thinking the hostess said something as this happened shortly after we asked her for water) he was nice and answered our questions. As we had waited so long we were ready to order at this point so ordered both drinks and food. When our server brought us out drinks he asked again what we wanted to eat, slightly surprised we answered we had already ordered to which he replied that he remembered but had forgot to put it in. After this, the lunch was mundane - food was good and service got better but nothing really took away from the abysmal start. Both my boyfriend and I have worked in restaurants so understand that this sort of thing happens when it's really busy but shouldn't when the restaurant is about a quarter full and there is at least 9 wait/support staff. I was really surprised neither the server or host informed the manager about our long initial wait (something I always did when hosting) - or if they did that the manager didn't come and talk to us. Overall I don't think I will be returning to market street for a while - either that or make sure I'm ready to wait just for water.

I've been eating (New England style) clam chowder all my life, but would never in a million years would have guessed that Salt Lake City would have some of the best I've had. But it's true. Market Street Grill's clam chowder is spectacular. On a recent work trip to SLC, I had the chance to try Market Street Grill. It wasn't my favorite seafood restaurant I've eaten at, but it was remarkably good. Everything I tried was delicious and wonderfully prepared and presented. I ordered the aforementioned clam chowder, blackened Hawaii ahi tuna with a ginger-soy sauce, and split the homemade carrot cake with my dining companions. All were excellent. Our server was patient and helpful and provided knockout suggestion after knockout suggestion meal-wise. We could not have asked for better service than she provided. The most mind-boggling thing about Market Street Grill is the freshness of the seafood. How can a restaurant in about-as-landlocked-as-you-can-get Utah churn out seafood dishes on par with most Atlantic and Pacific coast eateries? Do they have a fleet of private jets flying from the ocean to SLC, getting it to diners' tables within hours? It is truly stunning. The prices are steep, but not absurd, hence the 4 instead of 5.

All in all market street grill is a great restaurant. Their Sunday brunch is fantastic. The steak and eggs Benedict are perfect as well as their tort, creme brûlée and hot chocolate. Unfortunately dinner service has been very poor the last few times but I think they were just too busy. Also skip the valet it takes longer than just finding a spot.

Omg happened to one of my favorite places???????? It's going down!!!!! We had the most horrible Sunday brunch experience EVER!!!!!!! My wife ordered eggs Benedict with a crab cake and wanted to add an extra one, the server told me that they don't have an extra button to add a cake (whatever it means). Okay then. I ordered a green tea and he said he will bring a plate with the varieties of teas and I will be able to choose. Well he did, he brought everything but the green one. He also brought me a lemon on the side and it was a dark brown color lemon that someone squeezed or eat before me. SOOOOO GROSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Then my eggs arrived. I wish I took a picture of them: burnt English muffins, HARD BOILED eggs (i could literally chop them into a Cobb salad or something), cold Hallandaise sauce on the side(weird). I and my friends got the same looking eggs. It's either so overcooked or exploded all over the plate. We just wanted to leave and didn't feel like complaining. So we asked to split our check between two couples. The server told us that they don,t have a button for it (again no button), but he wil be happy to do the math for us. When he came back there was no math or any calculations done on the check, just one total for all of us. Ok, we did the math and gave him two cards, which confused him a lot and he had to come back few times to ask what amount goes where. It's just so sad. It used to be the place to go, now I can honestly say that IHOP has better breakfast for much cheaper price.

Our first time here, not what we expected based on the hype. We went in for lunch, the waiter was very nice but seemed hurried although there were only about ten tables with patrons. They bring sour dough bread that has great flavor but was very cold. We both ordered calm chowder and I had the crab and avocado sandwich, my wife had the special two halibut tacos. The chowder was very good, my sandwich tasted as though they used canned crab and there was a thin slice of avocado on each half, not very good at all. My wife liked the tacos very much. I guess I wasn't too suprised when the waiter didn't ask how the food was, I think he knew the answer by what I left. If we ever go b a ck it will be for the chowder, although the bowls a bit small, shallow and pricy.

I expected a little more. Lose the tacky salmon posters you got from your fish supplier. Keep the great wait staff. Stop overcooking every order of Salmon that our table ordered. Keep making great chowder. Stop turning off the AC during one of your busiest trade shows. It was another hit or miss night for this party of 9. These guys are usually rock solid.

This is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. We went Friday and got the Friday omelette special: Shrimp, Crab, Halibut, Spinach, topped with Hollandaise. With Asparagus. Delicious! It sounds like an overwhelming breakfast, but they make it so delicate and the flavors are wonderful. The potatoes were unique, not your averages homefries. I got the muffin with their homemade raspberry jam. Yum!! Loved all the flavors and unique touches. I loved the decor. It is a big, bright restaurant which makes for a pleasant dining experience. Very memorable dining experience and will return if I am in the area again!

On 11-22-14, we had dinner on the bar side of the restaurant. The food was ver good as usual. However, stay away from a waiter named Adam. He had an east coast mind set. Pushy and not having the patience to explain things to my wife and I. We felt rushed and uncomfortable with him serving us. I will return to eat again but I will be cautious as to who waits on us.

229.00 on dinner after tip and it blew!!! I don't cook and eat at high end establishments a lot. Don't get the steak here!! Spent $50 on surf and turf for filet and king crab (1leg!!) leg was great... Steak was seriously better at Chili's!!! It was stringy flat and I fed MORE than half of it to MY DOG!! At least he was satisfied. The only redemption to this place was the amazing staff!!

Love the dinner special. I had the fried seafood platter and it was a very guitly but flavorful pleasure. The quality of seafood here is surpisingly good, given that we're in SLC ---the middle of the desert. I've had the fishermans platter at the SLC airport too and it's smaller but just as high quality. crisp fried outer, moist, flavorful inner, and all the sides you normally get with platters like this, e.g. french fries, slaw, etc.

This place USED to be great, now they are completely lackluster and leave much to be desired. We've been coming here for 10+ years as satisfied customers, for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately, I will not be returning for several reasons. They have raised all their prices, cut down on portion sizes at the same time, quality hasn't even stayed the same, it's gone down. I've had several cuts of fish that don't taste anything better than the pre-seasoned fish you get at the supermarket (that's sad). Things that used to come standard with a meal, aka salad, are now side charged. They've taken things off the menu that people love (spinach salad). I don't expect big portions when I go to a restaurant, I appreciate quality over quantity, but they miss the mark over and over in this area nowadays. If you do want quantity, then you'll be even more disappointed as you are left to fill up on bread and potatoes, and not seafood, which is what they are supposed to be known for. If you look at your plate, say you order the Halibut Oscar, one of my old favorites, you will notice that maybe 10% of your plate is actual fish or crab, the other 90% is just filler. I hope one day they will return to what gave them their success, as being one of the best seafood restaurants in Utah, I can no longer even remotely agree with that. You can eat a much higher quality meal, with the dish you intended to eat when going to a seafood restaurant in several other places in downtown. Atmosphere and service are always pretty good, which is the only reason I'm putting 2 stars (really a 1.5) instead of 1 star - 5 years ago it would have been 4 stars minimum. Get your act together Market Street, I'd like to come back someday when you do!

Love this place! I hadn't been to Market Street in a while, but had plans to meet a friend there for breakfast recently. It was just as fabulous as I remember it! The service was fantastic. Our wait staff was very attentive and treated us very well. I chose to have the California Omelet, with the Market Street Potatoes. My omelette was served very timely and piping hot. The eggs were cooked perfectly (I despise runny omelet) and the omelet was fluffy and stuffed full of bacon and cheese. The avocado and salsa were very fresh as well. The Market Street Potatoes are amazing. So crisp and full of flavor. You can't go wrong with them! I will be returning to Market Street again very soon!

I love their breakfast. My favorite is the eggs benedict with the canadian bacon replaced with a tomato slice and a broiled tomato for the side. My wife loves breakfast number 4 with juice (half fresh-squeezed OJ mixed with half grapefruit juice). It's very good. The coffee is good and bottomless. The last two times we have visited, service was perfect. I needed to remove a star. Prices have gone through the roof for breakfast. I still enjoy going but don't go as much now.

This place had a few things not going for it the night I visited... Terrible service: I don't like to point out people's names in reviews but looking around the restaurant, I didn't feel it was lack of training from the restaurant. So our server, Adam (that's right, your name is on that nametag of yours!), came off with a very unwilling attitude. One thing that I could not drop was him spilling water on my sister-in-law and not showing any sympathy. His reaction to it was, "oops...", no apology or even attempt to clean up the water from the table, just kept pouring water like it never happened and walking away. Mediocre food: When a restaurant tries to boast seafood, please cook the seafood, not just fry it. Fried food is great, but it takes away from the fish! Expand the kitchen's skills and make a better menu. If I wanted fried fish, I'd hit up Long John Silver's.

Very busy spot on a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated at a table in the bar very quickly. The decor is bright and cheerful; large mirrors on the back wall make the space seem very large. Waiters bustle back and fourth with enormous trays. This is not a quiet, intimate joint, but neither is it defeating. A very happy, busy vibe. Our server was slow to appear, but did his job very well once he arrived. We enjoyed two-dozen oysters -- again, a bit slow to arrive, but delicious and well-presented. Followed with salads. Wife had caprese salad which looked a bit plain on the plate, but tasted delicious. I had a Louie salad with bay shrimp and snow crab on top. Absolutely delicious. At the end of the meal, I groused about he server being slow to deliver the check... only to discover he had already delivered it, and it was sitting in front of me the whole time. I will definitely go back.

The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the service was really good. The food is really overpriced. I ordered a shrimp dish for over $20 that had about 6 shrimp on it and french fries. I could get better at a fast food restaurant. The clam chowder had no chunks of anything in it. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

For the price, Red Lobster is better. We had filet and lobster which the lobster was over cooked. My son had mahi mahi which I would actually recommend. The service was ok. They took our order and delivered our food but did not wow us with any personality. Best part of the meal was the oyster sampler. I will not come back again if I have the choice.

After eating at their Airport location, I thought I would try the SLC downtown location. The Clam Chowder is excellent. Crab cakes were very good. After I ordered I saw other tables getting their dinner and although my dinner was fantastic, I was wishing I ordered the crab legs... They were so big and looked great. I will definitely try them the next time I come to town. Great atmosphere as well .

We made a reservation for 8pm and we were seated around 8:20 and we were a little angry about that but once we got the food we all agreed it was worth the wait. The clam chowder was sooo good I just wanted a vat of it to take home... All the different fish we got was fresh and great. I will be coming back when I am in SLC for more clam chowder.

The Ahi Tuna was pretty good - fresh. The clam chowder was fine, the salad overdressed. I ordered my bacon cheeseburger medium but it was well done. My friend ordered her cheeseburger medium rare but it was well done. She had even emphasized it when she ordered, but no luck. I'm not sure if it's their Salamander when they melt the cheese that causes the over cooking? Maybe I watch too many cooking shows..... In any case, the highlights of the evening were the bacon on my cheeseburger which I peeled off and ate separately, and the Key Lime Pie!!!

The service and atmosphere were excellent. Those in our party who ate the Crab stuffed mushrooms all became violently sick within 10 minutes of each other. After calling the Market Street Grill to inform them of possible food poisoning we were politely brushed off and told someone would look into it. I'm not sure exactly what that means but would have expected more concern for the welfare of the sick people in our group. The manager did not even ask if everyone was feeling better at the time of my call. We will not return to this restaurant.

This was my first time experience.. I can honestly say that I enjoyed it.. When we first walked in, we were greeted by the lovely host that had a great smile. After we sat, the server took his time and went over the menu with us, which I had no idea what I was even lookin at. He recommended a few great dishes but we went with a more safe dish because I'm not much if a seafood kinda guy. But overall it was great! I'd definitely go back.. Great food, great service, great place!

This used to be one of my favorite places in SLC for brunch but after returning from a year away from town I am sad to say this restaurant fell off. I was served an oyster that was completely rotten the shell smelled horrible and the oyster tasted like death. It was so bad that it actually made my hand stink. Really really bad. My friend didn't get cheese on his cheese burger etc. Anyways Market Street needs to step their game up.

Am giving this one star because they need a wake up call. Of course, one review won't do it, but I'm guessing there are others out there like me who have eaten here for years and are realizing that this place is just not all that good compared to so many other really great restaurants in SLC now. I think they were once one of the best. Now service is very rushed, food is average at best, but mostly unimaginative basic fare -- and prices are high for the quality and experience. I think they are still doing well with the tourists and conventioners, but they won't get any more of my local dining spend. My salmon here was really really overcooked - yes a restaurant that specializes in seafood can't get it right and this is not the first time. And, why can't one get just a cup of chowder (nope, a bowl only?) My wife had a meat thing and though I can't recall what it was I do know it was something that she wanted medium rare and though this was a perfectly normal request for the type of dish and preparation, we were more than suprised when the waiter told her it could only be served/cooked medium. And by the way, when did it become appropriate for servers to pick up plates without asking and before everyone at the table is finished eating? Although I rarely write reviews (I should do so more often,) we are not hicks. We are well traveled and have eaten at many of the best around the world. We have some very decent eateries here in SLC now and Market St. Grill is not one of them. Scratch, Pallet, Copper Onion, Forage and Takashi come to mind and there are others. Eat there; not here.

We went to eat here for the first time. We order three kind crab, oyster, seared tuna and fried calamari. Oh my! We love everything. Tuna was so fresh and yummy. Crabs was so so so good. Oyster was really fresh. My husband never like oyster before but he couldn't stop eating. Only thing that we didn't like that much was fried calamari. It was too chewy. Service was great. Love our server. Gus made our meal even better. Thanks!! Will go back again for more next week!!

Market Street is quickly becoming my favorite brunch spot in all of Salt Lake. They have, by far the best drink selection in town. My husband and I always order few Mimosas and Bloody Mary's to start. Amazing! They bring you warm cinnamon rolls while you are waiting for your food. And then once you get to the food itself you will not be disappointed! I order the French Toast every time and it is wonderful! The service is excellent as well. Last time we went in my husband's steak was overcooked and the waitress noticed immediately and had a whole new plate rushed out. We were very impressed! I suggest you run, don't walk, to Market Street today!

At the end of our date night my wife said "I don't like going to Market Street Grill. We always end up disappointed". Truer words have never been spoken. We arrived last night at 5:30 and were told without reservations we would need to wait 15-20 minutes. This would work as we had 7:30 ballet tickets. 45 minutes later I created a bit of a scene questioning the host in his 15-20 estimate. Finally an hour after arriving we were seated. The biggest issue was that we had very little time to enjoy our meals since we wasted over an hour waiting to be seated. This meant we left our side dishes untouched as we raced through our main course. This was no big sacrifice as the side dishes offered were the most bland foods possible; boiled new potatoes, smashed boiled new potatoes, white rice or French fries. Blah! The rest of the food was decent, minus the spinach salad, which was simply spinach leaves, dressing, and three cherry tomatoes. Boring. Save your money by ordering just the chowder and bread. You can get seafood just as good for half the price at other places.

Oh, Market Street Grill, I feel wishy-washy about you. I tried it twice for dinner and did not find it very outstanding. I thought it was overpriced for some items and I was left feeling unsatisfied and poor. Maybe I'll like you more when I'm a high roller? Well, I remember paying a good amount for some oyster of sorts and all that I got was a miniscule morsel--the lemon wedge was twice as large. For the main entreé, ordered some fish that was presentation-lacking with two bulky potatoes and tartar sauce and a big ol' lemon with parsley as garnish. I did love their creamy clam chowder and hearty crab cakes though. I want to like this place more, but maybe dinner time isn't their shining time? I heard good things about their breakfast and brunch so I'll have to try it some other time. Recommendation(s): Clam chowder, crab cakes

My dad raved about Market Street Grill and insisted we had to go the last time we visited Salt Lake City. The food was good, but it wasn't anything special. I ordered the coconut shrimp. It didn't have a lot of the coconut flavor and the dipping sauce also lacked the strong flavor I have experienced at other restaurants. I wasn't adventurous enough to try the oysters, which I guess the restaurant is known for, but my dad had them and he said they were good. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, but a little crowded. We were sitting on the far side of a room facing a wall, so I felt a little disconnected. I'm not sure the Market Street Grill lives up to the hype, but I would still recommend it to anyone who is simply craving some sea food.

This is a Breakfast review. This is hands down my favorite place to eat breakfast the staff is usually really good, the food is always good but then again out of the hundred plus times I've eaten here I've only ever ordered tavern ham with eggs and hash browns. The coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice is always good and when you ask for cream they actually bring you cream and not a little plastic thimble that squirts on you when you try and tear the lid off! The price is very reasonable for what you get, my standard breakfast is under $7.00 and I think my wife's eggs Benny is about $5.50

While visiting Salt Lake City a week and a half ago, my wife and I decided to have breakfast here before spending the day at Hogle Zoo. We were meeting family at 10:30am and figured that getting to the restaurant at 9:00am would give us plenty of time. Instead, our server didn't come to our table until 9:20am. We ordered as soon as he came by and 20 minutes later, at 9:40am he stopped by again to see if there was anything we needed. Just our breakfast and more water, I said. I then asked him if they still honored their guarantee of "breakfast served in 10 minutes or it's on the house" (which we saw printed in our menus). Strangely, he responded by saying, "well, you kind of would have had to tell me about that earlier". Confused as to how I could have known when we placed our order that it would take over 35 minutes to get our food, I asked if he could check with the Manager to find out if they still honored their printed guarantee. Five minutes later while she walked past our table, literally without stopping, the Manager said they had a large table they had to take care of but our food would be right out. Ten more minutes later, it finally arrived. The food was decent. I had an omelet and my wife had eggs Benedict. My only complaint was my toast was burnt. Literally black around the edges. Our server had it replaced. By this point, he seemed anxious to see us leave and left our check and said his Manager had agreed to give us our meal on the house. While I appreciated the "gesture", I maintain that if a restaurant prints a 10-minute guarantee on its' menu then makes you wait 20 minutes to order and another 35 minutes to get your food, you shouldn't be made to feel as though you've been done a favor. Maybe an apology for the wait would have made us feel a little more valued and less like an inconvenience. Making right for a bad experience: half-done. Toast: overdone. My desire to return to MSG: undone.

Check your bill! They overcharge everyplace they can. This review is based on principal. Restaurants that aren't about doing the right upset me immensely. The oyster sampler is $7 for 3. I asked if I could pick my three and could I pick all the same. "Yes." My entree came with a salad. I asked for a Caesar. "OK, but the will up charge you." OK. It's only $1 more. My bill arrives and I was charged $9, not $7 for oysters and the entire $4.99 for the Caesar. It was $6 more than expected. Not a lot, bit it is the principal. I asked the server and he said it was right. I asked to speak to a manager. He replied, "everything costs money, but I'll take $2 off your bill. " The bottom line, they are not interested in doing the right thing. I worked in a restaurant. Caesars do not cost more that garden salads. And if you can charge $7 for three oysters, make it standard. Bottom line, I'm not going to a restaurant who I feel cheats me. The two stars is for the good food.

I did a double take when we entered this place. It looked like a large sandwich shop and not a place with "Grill" in it's name. I also expected a lot more meat options The table ordered a nice mixture of entrees and I snuck off with one of my friend's oysters. Tasty. My prime rib was good, but the others at the table said their entrees were just okay. Nothing outstanding. I thought the Grill was just okay and I'm not sure I would come again, given all the other options in the area. It seemed sort of expensive for the meal that were served.

My husband and I have not had dinner here for a few years, last time I had a private room for my birthday & it was very nice and commendable. We decided to celebrate a very important occasion this time: our 1 year anniversary! (He was my fiancé when we came for my bday- good taste?) We easily made reservations same day for 8:30 in the evening and were seated right away. We got our drinks ordered quickly and already knew we wanted to start with fresh oysters as appetizers. We decided to try 2 of each because we weren't sure which we would like best & they all tasted fresh. The only thing I was not too pleased about is the waitress & chef could not figure out which oysters we liked best so we could order more after dinner. The friendly waitress thought she knew & said she'd ask chef if she couldn't figure it out... But when my husband ordered a couple more after dinner, they weren't the same ones. He still ate them of course but, it'd be nice to know which kind we really enjoyed eating for future reference. With my entree I ordered clam chowder which was very tasteful and I got the mahi mahi. The only complaint I have is that it was a little dry. The mashed potatoes and grilled veggies were nicely seasoned & I also enjoyed the thin bit of pineapple (could have been larger slice) but I expected more of the fish. My husband had the sirloin steak and it was perfection! He loved how the outer was nice & crunchy while the inner was medium rare as requested. He very much enjoyed 2 hefs while I tried the tasty raspberry lemon drop. We were considering more drinks, but decided to call it a night. Great experience & will consider going back for brunch!

I was so looking forward to having dinner here on our trip to SLC for two reasons: 1. We were meeting old friends we hadn't seen in 30 years and couldn't wait to catch up. 2. I lived here in 1980 when it opened was it was the place to be! Sadly, everything has changed. Instead of a crowded, lively place, it was stuffy and practically empty. Our party of 4 was seated immediately (of course) and the server, Gus, came over to take drink orders. We started chatting and laughing and catching up with our friends and when Gus brought the drinks he asked if we were ready to order. We laughed and said we hadn't even looked at the menu yet! He gave us a snarky look and said he would come back. About 5 minutes later he did...and we still hadn't really looked at the menu...but when he said "Whenever you decide let me know" in a snotty tone we hurriedly looked at the menu and chose. Three of us ordered salmon and one the halibut. And salads...which were extra. The salads appeared, pretty sad excuse for a salad with two squirts of dressing. We ordered another round of drinks. Before we could finish the salads, the entrees appeared! We were one of about 5 tables in the entire restaurant...what is the rush??? Hoping the fish would make up for all this, I was once again disappointed. Overcooked and served with 2 wilted asparagus spears and some potatoes. When the second round of drinks didn't appear, we asked a busboy going by to check on them. Finally our very 'put out' server, Gus, showed up with them. But the biggest surprise was when the check came and it was over $200. 4 entrees, 4 salads, and 2 rounds of drinks (and one of the party was drinking lemonade!) I expect to pay these prices for excellent food and service, but not for what we got. So sad....but I guess this just proves the old saying "You can't go back home again"

We have been customers for nearly twenty years while visiting SLC. Over the years it has only gotten better and better. Sunday brunch menu is absolutely fabulous. I am tired of the normal breakfast menus that everyone serves, but here yes you can get traditional but the nontradiotnal morning fare. Love love love the Maryland blue crab benedict. Love love love the shrimp avacado panini with fresh lemon. Stop by late afternoon and try sitting at the oyster bar have a cocktaail try the mussels OMG to die for! I've read some reviews that have mentioned a problem with service. I have worked in the food industry many years so I tend to watch service (people watching) I have never witnessed poor service on any of my visits. I've only had fabulous service and food. I'll be back. UPDATE - Since posting this review I have been back several more times. Each and every time everything has been spot on! I love this place I love the oyster bar. Give it a try.

Really not that many redeeming qualities about this place (for dinner anyway). Well, maybe three things: waitress was very nice, bread comes out piping hot, and I like their mints. I don't know how a place can call itself a "seafood restaurant" when the seafood it serves is below average. Maybe I'm spoiled by the coast and should consider that Utah is a landlocked state, but the seafood was seriously not fresh. And to charge $25-35 for an entre of sub-par seafood seems just not right! Our party of 8 tried most items off their menu (especially their special Crab Festival menu), so I think it was not an issue with the sample. We ordered: -Prime Rib ($25) -- Best dish of the group. Tender and juicy. If you going to dine at Market Street, I think you should stick w/ the red meat. -Crab Stuffed Flounder ($22) -- Crab meat was good, flounder was ok. The bearnaise was overwhelming and salty. At least the green beans on the side were fresh! -Crab Risotto ($25) -- Not bad -- very filling. Risotto itself was lacked cream/sauce -- but the chunks of crab meat on the top made up for it. Shrimp tasted frozen. Biggest issue by far was that they had green peas in it and I detest grean peas! -Ciopinno ($25) -- Tons of seafood and comes out look uber appetizing -- but as i mentioned, quality of seafood is pretty poor. Mussels were mushy and scallops undercooked. Unlike other Ciopinnos I've had, there was very little soup base. All entres did include either a salad or the clam chowder. Don't get the salad! It literaly had nothing but leaves and dressing. There were 3 cherry tomatoes...but they was were too lazy to even toss it and served them on the side of the leaves. I had a spoon of the chowder - pretty tasty.

Lovely atmosphere with a bunch of nice people working here. I had the early bird menu with Atlantic salmon and soup. It was super delicious. Great portions, but a bit on the pricey side to be a real bargain.

It's sad to see that a once wonderful restaurant is cutting so many corners now. Not only have their quality and portions gone down, so has their menu selection. They're now charging for things that used to accompany dinner (salad) and they've raised their prices significantly. My family will never go back. We can eat WAY better than this for $410 for 6 people.

This place is a bit on the pricey side but the quality of service and food so made up for that. I came here on a friday, late morning with two other people. This place is in the downtown area and you get that business meeting vibe when you come in here. The building it is in is this historic New York Hotel building so it has this old timey vibe to it too which is really nice. I ordered the strawberry waffle and the server was quick to mention that it was one of her favorites. yay! When it arrived, my expectations were blown. Any sort of accoutrement you can think of for a waffle was there - butter, strawberries, syrup and freshly made whipped cream piped out in to a silver bowl. The plating was so pretty!! Would really like to come back here again.

I like this place. I really like this place. Had the steak and eggs combo for breakfast. It's $9.99. It also comes with a choice of hash browns, tomatoes, or something else.. And your choice of bread, with juice and coffee. What a bargain! My total was $10.33. The steak was pretty decently sized, I'd say it started as a 6-8oz cut of good quality. Cooked perfect medium rare. The eggs were cooked the way I like 'em too. The sliced tomatoes were sweet, and thickly cut. The toast and jam were wonderful. Gotta love butter! ;-) The service, now this is what really won me over. Jessie who sat me, Allison who served me. Both phenomenal. Very attentive, and came back often to refill my coffee and water. The place does smell a little as well it's adjacent to an oyster bar. But if anything, it just adds to the already marine chowder house decor that is going on there... My new favorite breakfast spot in SLC!

A dinner stop on business travel and it was pretty good. I had the tomato salad, crab cakes and shrimp cocktail and all were good. My co-workers had steak and lobster and they were satisfied. I've definitely had seafood that was way more fresh being from San Diego and having spent a lot of time in Baja, but it hit the spot for being in SLC. A little bit pricey and the set up of the tables was crowded but the food was good.

Last night I took my super hot date to Market Street Grill because Takashi, just down the street, had over an hour long wait. The menu looked to be a bit pricy, but surely this would mean impressive seafood...right? This turned out to be a huge mistake. For an appetizer we got the Maryland lump crab cakes. I am from Maryland and these are NOT what we serve, they are truly AWFUL crabcakes. They were dry, there was too much filler, they were falling apart and they looked like cat food. For $15.99 this was a bit disappointing. On to the entrees. I had the Atlantic salmon for $24.99 which came with green beans and rice. My plate clearly died under the heat lamp, as it was extremely hot and the fish was very dry. This made for one of the driest and worst pieces of fish I've had...maybe ever. The rice was boil-in-a-bag bad... completely tasteless, its only redeeming quality was the small portion that rested on top of the salmon, leaving that small section of fish somewhat moist. The green beans had no seasoning to speak of, not even salt and pepper, they were chewy, they were barely cooked. How strange that our appetizer and my ENTIRE plate was awful, however, my date ordered the always delicious Alaskan halibut, surely everything would be fine. His plate came with boiled potatoes and the same terrible green beans that took up space on my plate for $31.99. This wasn't the worst fish he had ever tried! It was, however, not good. If it had cost $8-10 it would have been a decent meal from a street vendor. The boiled potatoes were nothing but 2 small boiled potatoes, devoid of seasoning and flavor. What the h*ll with this place? All the food listed above plus 2 beers and 2 cocktails came out to $115 before tip. Extremely disappointed, and not just because it was absurdly overpriced. I wouldn't have been happy with the food if it were from Long John Silvers. The place seems sort of classy when you walk in, but you quickly realize it is a bland food establishment aimed toward the elderly. It stinks of a restaurant operating purely on a good reputation from years ago...for some reason though, people still dine here. Avoid at all costs.

Here on Christmas vacation with my family and decided to go here as heard good things. I have to say that initially it was quite good the appetizer of calamari was quite good and I really wanted to try the oysters but as mom is alergic to shellfish couldn't have them. The main courses were for the most part just ok. The halibut oscar I had was good but honestly just ok and the portions very small. The best meal of the night was the prime rib my girl had, which I of course helped her with. Overall the family enjoyed this restaurant but I would not fo back to this restaurant given the price tag and just too many other places to try. Maybe as I liked Spencer's steakhouse in Spokane, WA I should have tried that one down the street. Next time. Also just FYI if you get appetizer, (2) entrees, (2) glasses of wine and split desert will be over 60 dollars per person with 20% tip that is why I rated $$$$

We just finished our first meal here, for Sunday brunch, and it was a perfect meal! I loved my salmon Benedict, but preferred my wife's crab omelet, which was sublime. It came with coffee, fresh OJ., and cinnamon roll - all delicious! Our server, Kourtney, was the best!!!

What the hell happened? Either Market Street has gone waaayy downhill, or it has always been crappy, but I never noticed as a starving college student who was excited to have extra dollars to eat something besides ramen. I used to love going to Market Street for lunch, the chowder was always a winner. I went back last week, after about a 3 year hiatus, and was not impressed. My beloved chowder tasted worse than the canned stuff, and the fish and chips were dry-dry-dry. Our server seemed pissed off and never checked in with us between the time our food was dropped to when he dropped the check. Big bummer, memories, down the drain!

overall reco- okay if in area, but not worth a long wait. 1. Service- 2- I made a reservation here, but they lost it. the hostess was nice though and sat us within 20 minutes compared to the 1 hour wait for others. 2. Food- 3- overall too rich Oysters Decent but nothing wow crab Ravioli too rich Clam chowder okay- no real clam taste. also really thin for some reason. salad- really good dressing shrimp cocktail- i dunno why they used baby shrimp... odd. i was expecting bigger shrimp with a shrimp cocktail. 3. price- average for this type of place 4. drinks- average

Okay, I have to start by saying that I never once went to Market Street Grill for dinner. I've heard its really good and one of the top seafood restaurants in SLC, although a tad expensive. I believe it. Because I've been there multiple times for breakfast and it ranks as my #1 breakfast place. Anywhere. EVER. The Crab Omelette is TO DIE FOR. Even better, it costs less than breakfast at Denny's! Can you believe that!? I think it $10.95 (unless they've raised prices since the last time I was there in '09). This tantalizing omelette consists of huge CHUNKS of crab inside a fluffy yellow omelette, covered with hollandaise sauce and topped with slices of avocado. If that doesn't sound yummy enough, then maybe knowing it comes with cheesy potatoes and toast slathered with a homemade raspberry jam will make you start salivating...like I am right now. My husband swears their fresh-squeezed orange juice is the best he's ever had. I don't care for orange juice with breakfast, so you'll have to make up your own mind. Its casual enough to bring your kids, and I've never seen it packed - weekend or weekday. Service is always great. And you can get a Market Street Grill card so you can rack up points towards a free meal. They will even send you a coupon for a free meal on your birthday. I'm going to be real - I dream about this place. My husband are planning a trip to SLC, so we can visit our friends and eat our way through town. Market Street Grill... you're at the top of our list!

Come in for Sunday brunch. They're well known for their Eggs Benedicts and there's an early bird special if you get in between 9-10AM. Add lobster to your early bird Eggs Benedict for an extra $5.25. Don't think-- just do it! They don't serve toast on Sundays-- instead they serve complimentary sweet cinnamon rolls. If you're staying at a hotel-- ask for a coupon for a free dessert/fruit cup.

the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, reminded us of a boat! service was great our waitress was nice, friendly and helpful! Friday special: halibut fish tacos were very good, fish was fresh and delicious. lemonade is delicious! crab and avocado sandwich would be better without jarlesberg cheese because it overpowered the rest of the flavors wild halibut was a good portion and fish was moist and not overcooked. creme brûlée used real vanilla which made it all the more delicious, flambé to perfection! fruit tart was good, generous portion. "just like the real French" as my dad says

I guess I understand running out of fresh fish, but the night we went they were "out" of sturgeon, filet mignon, bread (!), and horseradish. At the price point of this restaurant, these sort of fails should not happen.

After a long day at a trade show, I had a business dinner here last night. Always being a contrarian, I had a filet. It was once of the better steaks I've had in a long time, tender and juicy. Although the place was full and there was a 30 minute wait for a table, the waitstaff was prompt and willing to take time to explain items on the menu. The clam chowder was a pleasant surprise. While not cheap, the quality of the food and the service makes this place worth coming back for another visit.

No way...no way...one of the best seafood restaurants exists in a land-locked state? It's true. I know, I know. I'm a gulf coast native and I hate to admit it, but Market Street Grill hit the mark on all sides. We had their early bird special and for $20 I had the freshest Alaskan Halibut, a tasty spinach salad, all of the warm sourdough bread I could eat and perfectly garnished spuds...but wait I also got to choose between a cupcake or Haagen Dazs ice cream to top it off. And that's just the food. The restaurant inhabits a beautifully remodeled fire station and the staff are warm and friendly. Bottom line -- Wowza...just do it.

Yesterday afternoon, my wife, a friend and I were walking down Market Street returning to our car. On our right was the construction zone for the new courthouse. As we were walking, I noticed a broken construction barrier laying across the sidewalk, serving no purpose whatsoever. After stating to my companions that someone could trip over it, I tossed it over the fence, into the deserted construction area. Just then, our friend realized she had forgotten her credit card at a restaurant. My wife and I waited for her to retrieve it. It was slightly cold, so we decided to walk across the street and have a drink at Market Street Grill. Once inside, we were greeted by the hostess and the manager, Robert. When I asked if we could sit in a bar area, he immediately refused to sell us alcohol. After my initial confusion as to what caused his rude behavior, he stated that "I'm not serving you alcohol while you throw cones over the fence." I tried to remedy the situation by calmly explaining that we were just stopping in. He still refused, and continued to be extremely rude. Despite living in one of the most conservative states for all of my life, surprisingly, I have never really personally been treated with such judgment, prejudice and disrespect -- until yesterday. Frankly, it is the most offensive affront that I have ever experienced, and it upset my wife and me for the rest of the evening. For this poor excuse of a customer service representative, Robert, to leap to such a ridiculous conclusion about a glimpse of something he observed on the street is appalling. Furthermore, for the sake of Gastronomy's business, I hope Robert treats other patrons more rationally. Despite Market Street's success and distinguished reputation, his elitist and irrational conduct is despicable. I will never set foot in any Gastronomy establishment again. UPDATE: After almost 6 months, and after attempting to call, email, and contact "Steve," I was never able to contact anyone from Market Street administration to explain the situation, or resolve this in any manner. The only outlet they decided to contact me through was this Yelp review. Talk about "customer service".

I was in SLC on business and my co-worker from the Salt Lake office recommended this place. She said it was the best seafood place in Salt Lake City. Wow. I've never seen halibut cooked quite to that degree of dryness. It had an amazing texture, somewhere between fish and jerky. And the rice on the side was devoid of flavor. If there is one thing a restaurant should not do, it is serve a mild fish like halibut, overcooked as it was, with a side of bland rice. Bland on top of bland is not a good combination. If you're going to serve bland fish, provide well-flavored rice. If you're going to serve highly-seasoned fish, provide bland rice as a palate cleanser. Look: maybe I'm spoiled, coming from the Pacific Northwest. But if Market Street Grill is the epitome of seafood in Salt Lake City, might I recommend the hamburger?

You might notice that I rate finer-dining establishments more harshly. The basic reasoning is I am rating according to context. If you are charging for, and therefor setting the expectation of a high-quality product or service, then be prepared to deliver. That being said, I might have seriously considered serving up Market Street Grill a 5-star. There was something about the slightly flippant attitude I got from the staff, and for sure, the clientele all seemed to think they mattered maybe a little more than reality would provide. I dined twice. Once for dinner, then the next day for breakfast. Let's talk turkey, eh, seafood. Claim Chowder - a serious hit! This was not a waste of time or my appetite. Crab Cakes - the best I've tasted west of the Mississippi. Seriously, I was prepared for trash and instead found myself craving more. Wine Selection - focused, and interesting. Not the string of tourist-trap labels that you'd expect outside of fine-dining mechas. A job well done! Salad with crab and shrimp - this was a little slight custom item I requested. A great selection of greens, generous portion of mouth watering shrimp and whole crab meat. For a moment I imagined myself ordering that salad every day for the rest of my life. The place is obviously a tourist and business hot-spot, so they don't need my positive review to promote the place. It's going to be on the spend-y side, but if you're craving for seafood and you're out in the desert of SLC - hit it. [end]

My husband and I ate dinner at Market Street Grill on 2/15, and it was average. We order and split the calamari, half pound of shrimp, and the dinner special of trout. The calamari, as well as the trout, was cooked well but absent of any seasoning. We had to ask for a side of chili oil (for the calamari) and tarter sauce (for the trout). The trout came with broiled potatoes, but only 2 of them. They tasted good after we added salt and butter. The bread is potentially homemade, but it was served cold. We won't return on our next ski trip.

Okay..... I went back with a few friends (not my choice) after boycotting the place after a little friend made a visit to our table that the board of health would have not allowed in.... & I must say I really enjoyed myself. I didn't see any little critters & the food & service was greatly improved. The crab cake appetizer was full of lump crab, but a little dry. The halibut Oscar was wonderful, but mine had no crab in the Oscar portion.... & again, the best chowder east of Seattle and west of Denver. I will go back again (as long as I don't see any unwanted friends) I will continue to go back as well....

Market Street Grill was a pleasant surprise. Living in in an area that is known for seafood we weren't expecting much from a seafood eatery in Utah. Market St was good. I had the seafood cobb salad and my wife had the halibut special. The halibut was perfectly cooked. The Cobb salad was beautifully presented If there was a downside it was the dessert. The waitress recommend the chocolate cake and it was OK but not up too the rest of the meal, especially considering the price. The cake was dry and heavy and the frosting was the consistency of Spackle. I'd definitely eat here again.

I had fond memories of this place from when I was a kid, so when my girlfriends suggested an afternoon out including lunch here, I was fine with going. Our server was darling albeit a little hesitant. I would guess she was new or that she hadn't worked a place like Market Street Grill before. They bring the bread out plain. While it's really good bread, even the Europeans, connoisseurs and purveyors of good breads, offer some oil, vinegar, or butter with their breads. If we'd all ordered soup or something, it might make some sense, but the two people who ordered soup had their bowls come out long after the bread came, and the other two of us didn't have soup. I would have been perfectly happy with an oil blend to drizzle with, or even some cheap whipped butter. Nothing, though. Then came the salads, which were impressively bad. The lettuce was crisp, and the plates were chilled, but that's where the good stuff ended. My green salad was 95% crappy iceberg lettuce, with two sprigs (yes, it was that easy to count) of watergress greens and a piece of spinach. It was such a sad little salad. There were two cucumber slices and four grape tomatoes, which were adequate, but not enough to make this boring, lackluster salad anything more than thoroughly mediocre. There wasn't enough dressing, either, and no garnishments. My friend ordered the spinach salad, and I hoped she would have a better experience, but her salad was 100% spinach greens, two grape tomatoes, and was also underdressed. There was nothing to this salad at all. Spinach, a teaspoon of dressing, two tomatoes. She barely ate a quarter of it and she's not picky. I didn't finish more than half of mine, either. Sprinkle some nice cheese on it, guys! Some candied nuts! Some dried fruit! Anything! Boring, boring, boring salads! Our other friends' soups were good but not anything special. Since both were seafood chowders, one would think they'd take a little more care. The soups were overly thick and just plain boring, like the salads. The extra hint of thyme in the clam chowder was nice, but thyme's almost always in clam chowder. No other ingredient stood out--not even the clams. Too bad. We ordered the lump crab cakes as an appetizer. At $15.99, we thought there would be plenty to go around with four of us. Then, we got two crab cakes. TWO CRAB CAKES FOR SIXTEEN BUCKS. They were generous in size but no large than the diameter of a baseball. We cut each in half and distributed them out. Four dollars for my half-crab-cake was certainly not worth it, though the crab was clearly fresh, flavorful, and very tender. I'd've rather had non-lump crab cakes in a greater quantity and smaller size and gotten more of them, because this product at this price does not satisfy. Then came the main course--surely it would redeem the precursors? Not really. My half seafood salad sandwich came out on mediocre white bread (what's wrong with the good appetizer bread? Hello?!) and was runny and insanely mayonnaisey. I know you have to keep any dressed salad sandwich moist, but this was ridiculous. The seafood was good but again, nothing special, at least not that I could tell through all the dressing. My plate was garnished with half a canned peach with a whole black olive where the pit of the peach once was. Um, what? Peaches and olives don't go well together, and the garnish certainly wasn't pretty. I ate the two separately, but they were run-of-the-mill grocery-store quality canned peaches and canned olives. So weird. Would a few veggie sticks or a cup of something have been so difficult? The other three in our party ordered the lemon-caper sole, the broiled mahi with teriyaki glaze, and the mahi tacos. Blah reported all around. Sure, they're specials, but they're small, simple dishes which can really shine. These did not. One of my friends picked up the tab as my Christmas gift, so I still have a Gastronomy gift card to use. I'm going to try the Grill in South Jordan, probably for dinner tonight, but if it equally fails to impress, I'll be waving goodbye to the Gastronomy spots for good.

    K. Quick story time. Wife and friends ordered reg. eggs benny, coffee, NY steak n eggs... Standard fare. Server (pretty noobish) screws a bunch of stuff up. Steak well, not rare, misses sides, lotsa no-we-cant-do-thats etc. Overbilled at the end of meal so now I'm kinda cranky. Ask her to correct, say not possible, per manager (more nos). Ask to speak to manager, no manager appears. 10 min go by... Server comes out says he should be out in a little while. I say bad words, including some that sound like "manager has made his point, I will slam the shit out of this place, and we will be even for the overbilling"... I hear her go back and say loudly "he says never mind, they are fine" into the back kitchen. Go to newyorker (next door, manager's there) and corner the bossman (and I am livid 6 ways to Sunday Brunch). Here is the cool part... Smoothest, calmest, most disarming-while-still-a-bad-ass circa 1960's casino boss I have ever dealt with before. Ed, my hat's off to you. I quickly realize the waitress was not telling him squat (probably out of fear that she will be "taken care of") and pretending it was on Mr. Ed here. I am not completely satisfied still (tho he tried to buy my silence... typical goodfella) but prob still will come back. Notes to MSG: - thanks for cheap brunch. Please keep service top notch, or it's just an ok bfast, in a nice building... Lots of those kicking your ass currently all over town (Eggs, Finns, Park cafe, Dodo, etc.). Maybe even shut your brunch if you can't staff it with amazing servers/service. Brunch has been slipping pretty hard over the last 3-4 years. - Nit-picking on policy and plate alteration will get you dick for good feedback. This isn't the 40's. It's our way, right away, at Burger King now... Too many "no's" and "I'm sorry, we don't do that here" in one sitting, and you will be even more empty than you currently are. Pretty soon all the older patrons will be all that's left... Youngins don't put up with that snooty shit at the table (just from our liberated wives and entitled kids). - if servers are going to talk trash on the customer base (which is ok, we are some special-case, whinny bitches), have them do it out of earshot and out of sight. A group of 3-4 servers whispering trash and pointing at customers and grinning (not us) makes for an awkward dinning experience. Glhf!

Great SeaFood spot in downtown Salt Lake City. They also own the oyster bar two doors down so don't get confused . This was a nice, New England style seafood joint. White walls, wood fixtures ect. They take their seafood seriously here as I witnessed our waitress alone rattle off most every detail of the fish to us and other tables. I have to say though, the simple crusty bread they brought to the table was fantastic, and a perfect compliment to the well spiced clam chowder that I got. One of the best bowls of chowder ever!

I've been here twice - once for dinner and once for brunch. The wait wasn't very long on both times and the servers we had were both very nice. For brunch, they have fresh orange juice and they give you a complimentary sweet roll that had an orange glaze - it was very yummy. I ordered the clam chowder, which was okay and the boyfriend ordered the Maine lobster Eggs Benedict that was delicious. The price is a little steep for my liking and parking can be kind of tough depending if you go during peak times. All in all I'd come back next time I'm in SLC.

I've been here twice. My first visit over a year ago was actually great, but by March '11, things had gone downhill. Service - the first time our server was Gus, and he was excellent, very helpful and stopped by frequently enough to be taking good care of us but not so frequently that we felt he was intrusive. The second time, I don't remember the woman's name, but she basically provided bare minimum service. Food - both times I ordered the ahi tuna steak. Again, over a year ago, it was delicious, but the second time... not so much. The price had gone up $5 ($27 to $32), the portion was smaller, and the fish was over-seasoned and had tons of sauce glopped on. You know what that means -- old fish. The fish itself was just really bland, didn't taste like anything at all. It was a huge disappointment. I basically never pay more than $20 for dinner unless I'm on a business trip, which is all I go to SLC for, so there is no way I'd come here if I was footing the bill myself. Mediocre food at a ridiculous price.

Yeah, the seafood is Utah good, the Coast (you choose,East/West) no, chowder is good, nice sourdough, steak just ok, high prices for what you get and the menu's busyness will give you headache.

I can't say anything bad about my experience here at Market Street Grill. I really like the open feeling and the fact that they believe in good service. The menu has something for everybody and the presentation is phenomenal. Great selection of wine, oysters and fresh fish. I enjoyed the blackened Hawaiian tuna, shrimp cocktail and the fruit tart. Again, VERY IMPRESSIVE.

The wild Alaskan salmon had less flavor than canned tuna and mayo, and that's giving more credit than it is due. The waitress promised charred. If that is charred, I hate to see raw. And ... a mountain of French fries? Seriously? Is this Denny's? The "salad" also disappointed. Two cherry tomatoes, two slices of cucumber, and maybe a fistful of romaine leaves. Meh. To top off the experience, I had to use the ladies' room, and every single stall had one of those paper seat covers already spread out on the throne ... and not because someone lovingly laid them out for patrons' convenience. Oh, no. They were used. The wrinkles gave that away. I expected more for the price. Not going back.

I love my breakfast and love Market Street for this reason. I have been here for dinners several times and don't love it. But they keep me coming back for brunch and breakfast. The weekday specials can't be beat for a full breakfast and all for around 10 dollars.

We love Market Street Grill for dinner and brunch. We go to the Sunday brunch where the food is fabulous for a wonderfully cheap price ($5.99 up to $10.00) depending on what you order. They serve fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, which used to come with the meal. A charge of $4.50 per glass (8 oz) is now charged for the juice. A bit of a shock the first time we saw the increase. We love the dinner, as well. We've never been steered wrong by any of the waiters when we want a recommendation.

We ate here twice over a two day period because we stayed in a nearby hotel. Our meal on Sunday was disappointing. My father and I split the burger and it wasn't good. We should have sent it back but we were both starving. You know you've got a problem if you say out loud "this burger tastes weird." And the person you are sharing it with asks "is this beef?" For starters it was way overlooked and dry. I have a sneaking suspicion it was precook end and sat there too long. My first clue should have when the waitress didn't ask how we wanted it cooked. I also ordered a Caesar Salad. It had mass quantities of dressing. I hate ordering Caesar dressing on the side, but too much dressing ruins a Caesar salad. The lettuce was limp from being drowned. Now having said all that, our breakfast there was delightful. Definitely try the pancakes, they're awesome.

Great atmosphere! You forget your in SLC while eating there. It reminds me of alot of older classic restaurants that I've eaten at in cities like Philly, San Francisco, and Chicago. The Clam Chowder and bread are both delicious. The best Crab cakes I've ever had came from Market Street during their Crab Fest. Far better than any Crab Cakes I've ever had in Maryland....sorry Maryland. A little spendy but worth it on occasion when you consider the food quality and unique atmosphere.

New York strip and fillet was cooked perfect medium rare and just the right amount of char. The prime rib was thin and wimpy. Service was good and fast but the place is quite noisy. We like the place and go there for occasion.

This place was a big disappointment. My friends and I had originally wanted to try out Takashi, but the line there was too long. We decided to eat here instead. Big mistake. Service wasn't overly friendly to begin with. The risotto tasted like bad Chinese fried rice and the only thing good in the cioppiono was the scallops. I would have given this place a 2-star if it weren't for the steak, which was cooked perfectly medium-rare. Clam chowder also wasn't too bad. Overall rating: Service: Poor Food: Poor Value ( price for food quality ): Poor Atmosphere: Good

I went here for brunch. The place was quite busy but service never skipped a beat. Portions are more than healthy and extremely affordable for the amount of food you get. If you aren't all that hungry consider splitting one of the numbered combos.

I come to Market Street Grill generally for one reason only: CLAM CHOWDER & BREAD (and a salad if it's lunch time). They have the best clam chowder I've ever tasted. I get cracked black pepper on top, I'm also a black pepper junkie. Their french bread is also some of the best I've had. It's bottomless, so I will dip bread until I can't eat anymore, then finish off the soup if there's any left. Other meals are great as well, don't get me wrong. Food is done well, flavors are great. Just a little more pricey if you're going for that kind of thing. If you don't have a great server, which is likely, just brush it off and enjoy the food.

My husband was really pleased with his seafood omelette with snow crab, shrimp, and halibut with a hollandaise sauce. My Oregon Bay Shrimp Louie was really nice with great flavor and fresh ingredients. The small sweet rolls that they bring when you are seated are really an excellent start to a brunch meal.

This is a hard one to rate. This is really good seafood considering it is located in a land locked state. If it was on a coast it would get 3 stars. Complementary sourdough bread was awesome, clam chowder was one of the best Ive had. I got the combo platter of shrimp, scallops, etc. which I really enjoyed. Will definitely be going back to try other things on the menu. Prices were pretty high but I can understand given the fact that they try to make the seafood as fresh as possible.

If you want a sure thing to impress, butter-up, or just a great meal, you cannot beat Market Street Grill. This is one of Salt Lake's finest establishments with especially great seafood (considering Utah is a land-locked state). Don't be shy to try their steaks either because they are mouth-watering delish. The staff is very professional and the atmosphere is inviting. Try Market Street 'cause it's not just the catch of the day.

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews but I enjoyed this place! The location was great - downtown and close to hotels, bars, etc. I didn't realize the oyster bar was separate from the grill but they have the same menu. I ordered a Blackberry Bikini martini which was absolutely delicious! They also start you with sourdough bread and butter which was also good. We started with the Bay Shrimp appetizer which ended up being tiny baby shrimp but was still good. They have an early bird special if you get there before 7 pm which includes a choice between ribeye, halibut, and another fish plus salad and a dessert for $20. My salad was nothing special but my companion got the avacado blue cheese house dressing and really liked it. The halibut was great and came with a little dill sauce and boiled potatoes. The key lime pie was amazing and I received a portion that was worth about 1.5 slices! The pace of the meal was nice and I didn't feel rushed. Our server was working really hard but wasn't as responsive as I would've liked - maybe too many tables? A woman I assumed to be the manager was walking around and helped clear our table but sour is the word I'd use to describe her disposition - no questions about if we enjoyed or dinner, etc. Overall, I'd strongly recommend giving this fabulous seafood place a try next time you're in town!

I travel to SLC for business a lot and more than a few locals recommended the market street grill. Sadly I was really disappointed in the food! The portions were tiny and it wasn't anything I couldn't have ordered anywhere else. And the price was way too high for what we received! I still gave it 3 stars because the staff was excellent and the drinks were good (however just like the food overpriced).

I frequent Market Street Grill for the Sunday brunch, it's surprisingly fairly priced and is absolutely delicious! The crab omelette is my favorite, though there is hardly anything on the menu not worth trying. You always get orange rolls before your entree too! The coffee there is absolutely amazing, as well as the fresh squeezed orange juice. As far as dinners or lunch at Market Street, I've only been a few times but it was certainly delicious. Although it is expensive, I wouldn't say it is terribly overpriced, just be prepared to pay for what you get!

I went here most recently for breakfast with the whole family (sister, bro-in-law, three kids ages 5-15, and my partner). The server was delightful and the food was good. The coffee was hot, tasty, and plentiful--a necessity after a sleepover with three rowdy boys who want nothing more than to dance to Glee all night. My only complaint was with my eggs; although I ordered them over easy, they arrived over hard and then some. But the Market Street potatoes mostly made up for the disappointment. Undisclosed-on-menu potatoes+cheese+onions=awesome.

On a recent trip to SLC, ended up eating here twice. Granted, my expectations were low the first time around - who ever expected decent seafood in a landlocked city?! First visit - had the crab cakes, clam chowder & clam strips 2/ fries. Crab cakes were great - all lump crab meat, no filler, just the way I like it! Clam chowder wasok with lots of clams/veggies. The clam strips were plentiful (surprisingly) and significantly outnumbered the fries on my plate. The strips were somewhat chewy at times and I did bite into a couple that was gritty. Finished off w/ dessert - ice cream with sabayon & berries. Looked better than it tasted. Would have been better with homemade ice cream instead of Haagen Dazs. Second visit - had the crab leg special - Alaskan, King & Dungeness crab. I wasn't expecting much in terms of portion size so when the plate arrived overflowing with crab legs, I was shocked. They even had to bring my side of potatoes on a separate dish. All in all it included 2 Alaskan legs, 3 King legs & 1/2 a Dungeness crab. The Alaskan & King legs were cooked perfectly and the meat was sweet. The Dungeness crab seemed overcooked and was flavorless. Anyway, it was way more crab than I could finish on my own - I ended up giving 1/2 of it to my husband. Note - if you're on a low carb diet, ask the waiter not to bring the bread to your table. It will be too tempting! The fresh sourdough bread (delivered twice daily) was really good. Contrary to another reviewer, I found the prices to be reasonable and portion sizes to be plentiful. The only criticism I have is the portion size for crab cakes. The crab cake appetizer is $11 and includes 2 pieces. The crab cake dinner is $23 and includes 2 pieces & veggies/starch. Totally not worth paying an extra $12 for veggies/starch. One last secret tip - there's an appetizer that is not on the menu that only locals know about. Order the seared ahi tuna appetizer - its sliced seared tuna on a bed of crab slaw, served with wasabi, soy sauce and ginger. Loved it!

This place is WAY overrated and overpriced. I like the ambiance and the food is ok but it is one of those restauraunts where you get the bill and it is jaw-dropping that it is so costly for a mediocre dinner. I am more than happy to pay a lot for a great meal but this place is not great.

Seafood? Market Street. Chowder? Market Street. Sunday brunch... yeah.. Great ambience, hot male servers, remarkable (free) orange cinnamon rolls with your order at breakfast, fresh sqeeezed oj and big city feel, right here in slc. Night time: make sure you get the chowder (they will give you the recipe if you love it, like i did) (I made it for a party and it turned out great, btw) and some seafood. I just get the salad with shrimppies and my chowder and I'm good. Sunday morning: I get the special eggs benedict and oj. Its like $4.99 and is YUMMMM good. Great place to people watch and read the paper. Parking is nasty on weekend nights, but ok and free in their private lot at other times and on Sundays if early.

Was here only for a Sunday brunch. It's really hard to find a non-chain restaurants/cafe to eat on Sundays in SLC, but I luckily found this place. Brunch was fairly priced, and very good. But the "large" orange juice was the smallest serving I've seen in the whole world and still priced at $5. The service was neither efficient nor friendly, maybe one of the worst ones I came across in SLC. My waiter looked as if he was half-asleep and very slow in everything and not nice at all. The setting could be nice, but it actually felt like a full-bar diner. Chairs and tables reminded me of Mel's... But I thought I could come back to this place again for some football game on a Sunday...

Back when I used to live in Salt Lake for a short time in the early 90's I would eat here, or the Oyster bar a a semi regular basis. When I go back I usually try to stop in. I've been in twice for lunch this month. The first time everything was good. Fairly new server, which isn't a big deal. She was very nice, but had to ask other servers a couple of questions to answer mine. This past Wednesday I had a server that was training another. This time I was extremely rushed. She literally waiting right in front of me to finish my salad to take my salad plate! When she served my salmon, the check came with it even though I wanted dessert. I ended up ordering dessert while I was still eating my entree, which was a mistake. My dessert was delivered half way through my lunch, and sat melting in front of me. I'm sure she wanted to close out, and get going, but hey, that's not the best way to serve customers. Anyway, the food was good. The salmon and salad were fresh. There aren't as many choices for food in SLC as there are in Portland, so I will be back. It's also fairly corporate.

I am going to say that Market Street has the best fruit tart I have ever had. It alone warrants a review. I often take business partners here and get nothing but great service... I highly recommend the downtown location as it has great atmosphere! Oh and the fish is fantastic!

I don't know what made me decide to get seafood when I came to SLC, but I tried Market Street Grill and loved it. The atmosphere is busy and loud, but there is a great vibe from the staff. Everyone is having a good time and working hard. I had the seafood cobb salad and had tons of toppings and not too much dressing, which can always be an issue. I would recommend going here if you are in town, even if you are scared of seafood in a land locked state.

Had a great trout dinner but a little on the expensive side. But the breakfast is where its at! The best hot chocolate, you even get refills. The fresh squeezed grapefruit is delicious! By far the best breakfast in the city. Wish I wad up early enough to get it every morning. Definitely a bang for your buck!

Well in the land of Joseph Smith you are lucky if anything is open on Sunday, but lets just say that we can count on Market Street Grill to open their doors to all of the sinners. I have been here many times and the fish/seafood is always just as fresh as if I were on the coast. They fly in the goods 2 or 3 times a week straight from the source. I had the crab cakes and they were loaded with lumps of crap and a great sauce on the side. My parents are from Wyoming and anytime my dad sees an ocean he thinks that oysters will just jump up and land in his mouth. So needless to say this place is good for a quick fix of a plate of oysties and a cold beer. I think that they even have a happy hour that includes the oysters on the menu. The clam chowder is awesome!!! So are the stuffed crab mushrooms. rich and creamy. Also, if you must get the Au gratin potatoes with gruyere cheese, split it with someone because it is instant overload on the richness. Soooo effing good. I would have given this place 5 stars but the waitress was taking her sweet ass time most of the time and I almost missed my flight back to San Diego.

This is really hard ... I like the restaurant. Its good -- sometimes great -- food is served in a bright, cheery setting by well-trained, (mostly) friendly staff. BUT! It's pricey for the quality -- these folks are definitely aiming at the business eater. My biggest complaint? They have this "delightful" tradition: they don't cut the loaf of bread on the table all the way through. They expect you to tear it apart. I always send my loaf back to the kitchen to be properly sliced. I don't appreciate having to maul my food. On the up side? The crab cakes (mentioned by another reviewer) really are the bomb. Never my first choice, but I'm always happy to have someone take me there.

I came here twice for breakfast. One time, the service was amazing. The other time, the service was not so amazing. Both times, I got the waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. It's real whipped cream. They have fresh squeezed orange juice.

I had enjoyed Market Street in the past, but the food and the service were abysmal last Thursday. Our table hadn't been completely bussed when we were seated - the previous party's check was still on the table. The halibut sandwich I ordered came out on a soggy white bun, much like the kind I remember from the junior high cafeteria. It was topped with flaccid iceberg lettuce and melted cheddar cheese. Inexplicably, the garnish was half a canned peach with a black olive in the center, all atop a leaf of bib lettuce. I replaced the iceberg lettuce with the bib and choked down my $15 sandwich. At least the pickle spear was good.

Went here for a business breakfast, noticed a lot of other professional types. Soon found out why - the food is superb, and the prices are excellent. Their eggs benedict is only $6!! Breakfast is served with your choice of fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice. I had the market street omelet - a great mix of cheese, mushrooms, and other goodness, which was served with a chedder-stuffed pepper. The market street potatoes were tender, cheesy, and delicious. Toast was served with an excellent home-made raspberry jelly. Overall, Market Street Grill is an outstanding place for breakfast.

The best clam chowder ever. They even have the recipe on their website. I've made it multiple times and it is exactly the same as what they serve. Good seafood, good service, good breakfast, good cocktails.

One of my favorites in SLC. I love the old tiled floors and the (not old but still nice) wooden booths. The service is friendly and professional. The food is good and can be excellent if you order the right things. Ask what's freshest. Don't gorge on the fabulous crusty bread. Order a good dry white wine. You'll be happy.

I had the Fried calamari with clam chowder and potatoes. Fried calamari was good, the clam chowder seemed... dilute, and the potatoes were only ok. For the price, I feel there must be better options out there in Salt Lake City. For dessert, I had the Caramel ice cream with caramel syrup and a wafer. It was awesome. But it was Haagen Das ice cream, so I'm not sure Market Street Grill deserves any credit for this.

I'm constantly taking clients to Market Street Grill and I must say that the food is dependable, the service is reliable and the experience is always a good one. I'm a huge fan of their clam chowder if you are there for lunch, however if you have a chance to stop in for breakfast you are in for a big treat. Their omelets are absolutely amazing! I would say this is a great place to take people you are entertaining, however plan to spend a little more if you are eating here. I nearly never leave without having spent around $100 for lunch for 3 people.

Both times I have traveled to SLC in the past year, I have eaten at Market Street Grill, and both times the food has been good! Not stellar, not amazing, but really good! This most recent trip lead me to a salmon in a teriyaki sauce with a side of rice and vegetable of the day (which happened to be brussel sprouts). The salmon was great! I'm not much of a salmon fan, but this was wonderful. For dessert I had a raspberry/almond torte and it was also very good!

If your looking for Salt Lakes City's equivalent of Red lobster, this is your place. Way to pricy for an unimaginative menu. By the way if you claim to be a oyster house you have to have more than three variations of oysters on your menu. Also they have this thing called clams on the half shell, you may want to look in to that. But if you like a crab fest for a whopping $35 a meal this is your place. It certainly wasn't mine.

Love it! The clam chowder is excellent, and I've never had anything here that I haven't loved. I'm surprised by some of the earlier comments. Yes, you can get fresher fish on the coast. But, since Market Street Grill flies their fish in daily, I don't think you could do much better in Utah. I've also never had a fish there with "tartar sauce." I'm sure that they have some for people who don't really like fish. I just try to stick with selections that are prepared with a little more imagination.

I was staying at the Little America hotel for the Omniture Summit '08 and decided to take a walk for dinner. For a busy dinner hour, the friendly staff did a good job. BEER: The house pale ale was really good, smooth just the way I like it. CLAM CHOWDER: A little too watery. I'm not sure if that's how it's normally prepared in Utah. My preference is the thick and creamy chowder I've had at the pier in San Francisco or in Boston. HALIBUT FISH AND CHIPS: I loved it.

This is our go to spot when my parents come in from out of town and we all get together with my in-laws. They can seat a big party pretty easily if you call ahead and you can't beat their $4.99 early bird specials from 9-10 a.m. The food is consistently tasty but won't knock you off your feet. I gave it 4 stars for price, convenience and fast service.

I didn't have very high expectations for the Market Street Grill but we had a gift card so we went anyways. The food was definitely not great. The artichoke dip appetizer had a pool of grease on the bottom with chunks of artichoke too big to eat. The bay shrimp appetizer was decent but the salads were all iceberg lettuce and my red wine vinaigrette tasted like it came from a bottle. The clam chowder was tasty but we've had better. The entrees weren't very good either. The halibut was grilled but had no sauce to go with it so it wasn't very flavorful. It was served with plain white rice which added little to the meal. I ordered the fish n' chips and while the fries were actually pretty good, crispy and flavorful, the fish was fried in a batter too thick that it overpowered the flavor of the flounder. I would definitely not come back again, not even with a gift card.

When I'm in town for business, I always stay at the Embassy Suites in SLC downtown (since they provide free hot breakfast) and make my way over to the Market Street Grill for dinner. It's an easy two block walk from the hotel. I've tried many different dishes there I'm always satisfied. The portion is a bit big for me, but like a little piggy, I try to finish my veggies and seafood. The last time I was there, I ordered crab cakes (it was Crab Season!) and it was yum! I also encounted a very interesting vegetable that I really love now - broccoflower! Google it. It's an interesting looking veggie and they just simply steamed it. And that was all it needed cause it was delicious! The people are nice, good ambiance, and delicious fresh seafood. Suprising for SLC, eh? This is definitely one of the places I will always hit up when I'm in town!

I can't speak to lunch or dinner here, but breakfast is fantastic. We were in town for a trade show, and while brekkie at the Courtyard is alright, it's neither stunning nor inexpensive. My mother-in-law balked at paying $20 for breakfast for herself and my 4-year-old son, so asked the desk where else she could go. Thankfully, they directed her to Market Street. A big plate of scrambled eggs with chunky diced ham, potatoes, toast, coffee and juice--$5.99. That's just one example of their many tempting breakfasts, all at incredibly low prices. My husband gave their pancakes a thumbs-up, and my son loooooved the Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. Best of all, the service was efficient and very friendly, and servers were very nice to my son. When I return to SLC in January for the next trade show, I may even consider walking the 4 blocks from my hotel for breakfast here...maybe...if it's warmer than 20 degrees....

Market Street Grill proves that Utah has super-fresh seafood - surprise! Well, that's because Delta Airlines has a hub in Salt Lake City, and the seafood is flown in fresh daily. This is a great joint, where you can still get hearty breakfasts, coffee inclusive, for as cheap as $6; and for dinner, fantastic seafood. The crowd is such an unusual mix of conservative to progressive - of bi-curious waitresses (wink) to white-boy Mormons that can speak Thai fluently. But I think I was the first one to bring in a spiky-white-haired tattooed Filipino chick-friend. When in Utah - definitely dine here.

I have to say I'm stunned at how many 4 and 5 stars this place has received. We went here for dinner one evening and were sorely disappointed. Having said that, I have to give credit to our waitress who was stellar. Service was good, and she was very helpful in steering us as best as she could to items that we might like. But the food was mediocre at best. The baked halibut and the salmon were overcooked and dry, the rice was plain and the vegetable had little flavor. From reviews, I thought that the historic building might have architectural interest, but the interior decor left us cold. Maybe we were there for the wrong meal (we see many of the positive reviews are about breakfast), but we will probably not return.

This place is always busy and always has fresh seafood. The clam chowder is good. We usually stick with the salmon & halibut that is in season. It's usually between good and great. The service is usually perfect. Don't go without a reservation in the Jazz season - this is a very popular place with the basketball crowd.

Yuck. Someone told me that people go to Market Street to be seen, not to eat. Very accurate. How a Utah restaurant can screw up Funeral Potatoes is a mystery to me. Mkt St. Potatoes are awful. My 'fresh' Alaskan Halibut was battered and fried, and was dry and flavorless. I recommend walking a block to Bambara in Hotel Monaco for an equally-priced high quality meal. I'll give 2 stars for the clam chowder and sourdough bread, but this place is overrated.

I was not blown away by the food at this place, but they sure merit extra points for putting up with my very demanding dance crew and various dance crew family members & loved ones. The scene: a cold & wet Sunday. It's raining and 32 degrees. We don't think to call and warn them that a 20+ deep group is descending upon them around lunchtime. Once there, and after they've nicely pulled together 3 enormous tables and seated us in a semi private area, we proceed to harass them as to why breakfast is no longer available. We harrass and harass; our waiter keeps his cool and is very apologetic (after noon, the breakfast fixins are either thrown or put away; there's really no more breakfast to be had...). There's even some talk of leaving (even after all the trouble they've taken to get our tables together and provide us with waters). Thankfully, I'm able to talk my group down and we agree to stay and the ordering begins. Our first server was not so quick on the uptake, but he was quickly replaced by someone infinitely more capable. This guy alone, and the grace with which he handled our enormous group, is worth 5 stars, but again, the food was expensive and just ok (my $24 salmon fillet overcooked and a bit dry). If I were to visit SLC again, I'd return -- most definitely in a much smaller group.. of two ideally.

Very average seafood; I've been here multiple times with co-workers. Fish is very pricey for what you get - $18-$20 for fish and 2 side dishes. The fish portion is usually the size of my hand; the sauce is either tartar sauce or overall bland and a bit tasteless, and the fish is not super fresh. The clam chowder is solid, tasty and filling. Staff is professional, and the restaurant is nice inside. I recommend going to Takashi for really good fish/ sushi in Salt Lake City instead.

Tasteless, expensive meal. I had a hamburger that tasted like it had been frozen and then grilled, and the bottom part of the bun was soggy. And my green salad was lame. My wife had grilled halibut that was supposed to be fresh but tasted like it had been frozen. And my daughter had some jumbo shrimp that lacked any flavor at all. The prices are also very high for a place that in my opinion is not much better than a Denny's. It seemed like the kind of restaurant that people go to thinking that because the prices are high the food must be good. My advice: save your money.

One of the places I have truly missed since moving away from Salt Lake City... I have dined here several times and I have always been extremely satisfied... service was always great and seafood was top notch quality... its rumored they fly it in everyday from San Francisco! believable!

Great seafood other than sometimes the fishy smell gets a little bit overwhelming. Once again great seafood, will go back soon. You know another thing that is nice about this restaurant is that they are great about taking reservations and keeping organized. Terrible seafood j/k it's pretty darn good!

3.75 stars I can't comment too much as I had a light dinner here. The clam chowder was excellent and the crab stuff mushrooms was even better. The calamari was ok. Nothing spectacular but good nevertheless. It smells a bit fishy in here tho. maybe those kitchen vents need some more juice.

The restaurant is a meh, I've experienced better, 2.5 stars at best. But the takeout is great, Crab cakes made with just mainly "crab" wow, what a concept. The seafood salad was great too. Together is was a perfect easy way out for a "Polish" just seafood Christmas Eve DinDin. With a bottle of Zubrówka, for Szarlotka, and it was like being in Poznan. Although we weren't able to find a live Carp, to kill & cook, hopefully J.C. and St Nick will forgive us though :(.

This was my third trip to Market Street and each visit they get progressively worse. The food is over priced, the steaks are good but the seafood is very average. My wife loves shrimp and she was disappointed as well. However the thing that made me want to write a review was our server. She seemed annoyed that we were even there. Short, sharp and rushed us thought our meal. We were with friends, having a great time and she kept pushing us to order, drinks, then pushed to get an appetizer then rushed us while we were eating, I was scooping the last spoon full of chowder in my mouth as she was taking my bowl. She slammed the plates and dishes on the table so hard we were actually afraid they would break. We asked for more of their yummy bread and you would have thought we asked her cut off her arm. I gave her a 5% tip and we left. As I am writing this my stomach is upset and I don't feel good. The scallops tasted odd. I only at one. Not going back.

I can say there are times I go to Market Street just for the clam chowder. It's really good. I don't care much about their seafood overall, but they haven't really ruin a piece of fish either.

  • Richard S.

I like to be positive but..........I think this place is slipping, kind of dingy and over priced. If the price point were about 30% less all the way around or the chefs did something creative with the dishes, I would have a different opinion. The menus solution to many options is to load on hollandaise sauce, butter, grease and salt in that order. Case in point, I had lunch there on 2/3/11, stuffed flounder with crab and artichoke. The menu made no mention that a 1/2 gallon of Hollandaise sauce would be loaded on like mudd on a mountain side house in Southern California during a flash flood....Gross! The waitress did graciously take the item back and replaced it without the Hollandaise, but it was still so grease ridden that I could not taste the fish. The interior of this place has remained essentially the same since the day I moved to SLC over 15 years ago. You guys need to step up your game to get me to come back more than once every 6 months......Service ranges from great to meh

    (2)
  • Pat C.

I go here at least once a month.. even though it's pricey. It's well worth the money when I'm in the mood for good seafood and great chowder. I usually try to go when they are having "crab season" specials. Their preparation is consistent as is the service. I don't like sitting in the "common area". Ask if you can be seated at a booth for some privacy. Also, ask for (and pay a bit extra) for the au-gratin(sp?) potatoes. They are great.

Best Breakfast Ever My wife and I recently spent 4 nights in Salt Lake City. Although we had 2 dinners at the downtown Market Street Grill, which were excellent, this review is of their breakfasts. Twice we had breakfast there. The food both times was fabulous for a very reasonable price (much better than at our hotel). We had a variety of dishes: pancakes, eggs, sausage, omelette, etc. I rarely review restaurant breakfasts, but these were so outstanding (the best food and value we've had in a long time) that I wanted to let others know about them.

Excellent filet mignon, possibly the best I have ever had. For an upper scale restaurant the ambiance wasn't quite right, but it wasn't bad. I suspect this is tops for dining in SLC.

I visit Salt Lake twice a year and always eat at Market Street Grill on Sunday evenings. Seafood is never inexpensive but prices here are fair -- the seafood is fresh and cooked beautifully, portions are huge. Service is usually good; the few times it hasn't been I've complained and management is always responsive. If you're staying at a local hotel, get a "concierge referral card" from the front desk -- it entitles you to either a shrimp appetizer or a free slice of key lime pie for each 2 people in your party. Updated review 12/12 -- I last ate here in August 2012. The menu had changed slightly; salads are now extra rather than coming with the meal. That works out fine though, because they kept the base meal prices the same. Something seemed to be missing, though. The food was good but not great; service was good but not great. I'm hoping that I just caught them at a bad time.

This place is by-far the best place you can go to for Sunday brunch. I went with my girl friend and she ordered a Crab Omelette which came with sliced tomatoes and asparagus. I ordered Ahi Tuna (blackened) with Broiled tomatoes and eggs benedict. We also ordered oysters which was the best part. We loved the atmosphere and promised ourselves that we would go there almost every sunday (if not every Sunday) for brunch!

OK, the first rule of thumb is...when in Utah, do NOT go out for seafood! Market Street Grill is decorated very nicely, but it is rather pricey and the food is quite mediocre. And please, please stay away from their "crabcakes". If you've ever had a real crabcake (I'm from Maryland), their version will make you cranky if not downright insulted! How dare you call them "Maryland Lump Crabcakes"! They consisted mostly of breading with nary an identifiable lump of crabmeat in sight. The secret to this restaurant is to come for their "Appy Hour" when their appetizers are half-price. Now at those prices, the food doesn't seem so bad. BTW, the clam chowder is okay, but tastes like it came out of a can. It is definitely not up to SF or Boston chowdas. I would also warn you away from their oysters on the half-shell...even though they are discounted on Mondays, they are ruined by people who don't know how to shuck an oyster. The times we've indulged in these little creatures, they have been small and anorexic (even during "R" months). But what ruined them is that time and again they had copious bits of cracked shell, sand and dirt polluting them. I don't hate this chain of restaurants, mostly because we have gotten terrific service every time we've come here (trust me, this is hard to find in Utah). Nevertheless, if I were too late for "Appy Hour", I'd prefer Red Lobster.

avoid this place if you can. service was really good but the food is subpar at best. salt and grease do not make for a great fish dish. oh, and new york prices to boot.

  • Veda T.

Market Street Grill and broiler used to be a huge special occasion treat growing up. We'd all just order from the early bird menu so things weren't too expensive and we'd get huge cuts of prime rib and halibut with that amazing clam chowder. The complimentary ice cream at the end and the fresh sourdough bread was just frosting on the meal. But in the last few years, it's been going way downhill. The meat is always tough and the portions seem to be getting smaller too. Plus, their clam chowder used to be perfect to me, but it's become really inconsistent. Sometimes it's too thick and super salty, other times kind of bland. Bottom line: prices are going up and quality is going down. It's not what it used to be.

Great seafood. I love the black and blue Ahi tuna salad. Also the daily lunch specials are a great bargain for the quality of the food. I dropped off a star because the service can be a bit spotty sometimes.

This rivals the seafood on any coast. The fish is so fresh, and there is such a variety. Brunch is great (and usually pretty speedy). I highly recommend the fish counter (only at cottonwood & university locations).

In Salt Lake it's a one and only to have both seafood and an excellent wine list, plus service. Not the pre-measured 1 oz. bit of wine in a big glass, like most ski resorts. They actually pour a good glass of wine, like people do at home. Love the fresh made bakery treats for brunch best.

    (4)
  • Rob C.

Supposedly this is the only place in Salt Lake to get seafood. I have a friend who has a friend who says he worked at Market Street, and had the job of driving to the airport each day to pick up the food. It certainly seems as though this is true. I've only had one thing there, the crab and avocado sandwich, but I've loved it every time I've had it. Highly recommended.

  • Fernando A.

The best place for Sunday brunch in Salt Lake City. The eggs benedict are $5.00 (yes only $5.00!) and are out of this world. I have yet to find an eggs benedict dish that compares Market Street's. The Crab legs are also very good and is the best place for seafood in landlocked Salt Lake. The Oyster bar is also a great spot to see Salt Lake people try to be New Yorkers.

First time visiting the restaurant. Our waiter, Kerry, was excellent! He made appropriate and helpful menu suggestions. When he heard it was my birthday, he let me pick a free dessert. Thanks Kerry! The fish tacos were delicious. Lots of fresh veggies, avocado, and two salsa choices. At $12, it is a steal at this restaurant.

With the vast selection of seafood restaurants in the valley... Haha, just kidding. Market Street is actually one of the few that specialize in freshly caught creatures of the ocean. In my opinion, they do it well! I enjoyed my clam chowder very much and thought the whole snow crab entree was super tasty. The side dishes were lacking in creativity and finesse, but I don't mind simplicity. Skip the halibut sandwich since it's just a step above your Filet 'o Fish though. Service was great, and the atmosphere was casual with above average pricing.

Went for breakfast and we waiting almost an hour for our food, and it wasn't even very busy. Our drinks took almost 20 minutes to get to us and by the time they did our hot chocolates were cold. Service wasn't the best, a good majority of it was our waiter. The food itself was good & inexpensive compared to their dinner menu.

Last night my wife and I ate here and the food and service was amazing!! I had the boneless trout and she had the crab cakes. She also got a raspberry cake to go, it didn't last too long in the hotel room. I also liked how the seating in the restaurant was layered. Thank you very much for a great evening meal and experience.

Loved the design and atmosphere - it felt very New England, beachy, good natural light, seafoody. The service was good, albeit slow. They were busy though when we arrived. Their drinks are pretty pricey, with a cocktail about $12 on average, although I guess that isn't to be unexpected these days. I do have to say though their early bird specials (available everyday if you arrive before 7pm) is ridiculously flexible (how is 7pm early bird??? I remember early bird in California being before 5:30 or 6pm) and pretty reasonably priced considering it's basically a 3-course dinner! They had 3 choices for the early bird: 1) Salmon, 2) Fish & Chips, 3) Prime Rib. I ordered the prime rib - I haven't had a good steak in a really long time. For the first course you can choose clam chowder, a garden salad, or a spinach salad. They're known for their clam chowder apparently, so I gave that a shot, and it was SO good. So creamy, so rich, so indulgent, but there weren't many clams in there. Great flavor though. The prime rib was okay - it didn't have that succulent meaty flavor I craved, and the mashed potatoes and boiled potatoes that came with it were both okay. The mashed potatoes better than the boiled - it was more buttery and there was a lot more of it compared to the two boiled potatoes you get if you order that as your side. You could also choose to get rice or broccoli. The dessert is either creme brulee or ice cream, both of which were great. We also ordered the crabcakes as an appetizer. The price was a little high for its quantity, but the quality was amazing. You could taste the crab and it tasted deliciously fresh. Apparently this restaurant is the only restaurant in the city that gets a dedicated supply where they get their seafood flown in 2x a day! That's amazing!! Definitely could taste that freshness in the crabcakes. I'd come back for the early bird special because it's a great deal for good food and the ambience is great. Reason for 3 stars? Just a bit pricier than I expected! Side note: they also have a restaurant in the SLC airport!

My colleagues and I had dinner here in March 2015 while attending Adobe Summit. It was pretty good. We ordered the hot crab, spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer while sampling the local craft beer. I know I ordered from the specials of the day, but I can't recall what it was. I obviously wasn't head over heels OR grossed out, thus the three star rating. The place was clean and spacious. I like it when our party isn't seated within elbow-knocking distance of another.

Being from out of town, I didn't realize this grill has been around for 20 years, which explains a lot. The place looks great from the sidewalk, but the goodness ends there. Hostess walked us around the grill and finally sat us at the third table she'd picked, we sat around 9pm on Friday. The grill was 1/3 full, but the 'hurry and rush us out' was already in play! We had to order within in few minutes, drinks and tragically crappy salad came out within 3 minutes... Entree was shortly after, at 920ish. Thats when servers and staff started cleaning AROUND us... sweeping, stacking things, loads of ruckus and noise while we were eating two $38 plates of decent food. In one few swoop and to make sure we knew we needed to leave: 'Would you like dessert? No? Okay great, here is your bill, I can take that now." All the while we still were still finishing up our entrees. Yes, we couldn't even finish our meal peacefully. GTFO!

Anyone who gives this place less than 4 stars either doesn't know how to order, or confuses food quality with efficient service. The fish is fresh, delicious, and well prepared. Don't get a salad when they are known for their clam chowder. Eat here.

A group of about 10-12 came here on a Saturday night. It was selected for us as the company was buying dinner. I did a filet mignon and the snow king crab. It was like a $60 plate. To my chagrin, my medium rare steak was pretty dry. The food came out and was a little lukewarm. The chowder and appetizers were pretty good...I will say that. Our server was really good and very attentive. Got refills & he checked in on us. If ever back in SLC....I wouldn't make it a priority to come back here.

This place has amazing service and great food all day long. I find myself here at breakfast pretty regularly. Any of the complete breakfasts are a win, or you could treat yourself to the snowcrab Benedict :)

I didnt find anything fantastic about this restaurant. The food is pretty good but the service is horrible. Every waiter in here looks like he hates his job. The way the employees communicated was rude and aggressive. Our waiter didn't know anything about the oysters they carried... Didn't know what to say when I asked him to tell me about the differences (I'm from San Diego so our choices are very different). Overall I wouldn't return.

I heard this had great food, so while at the airport location, I decided to try it out on December 13, 2014 at 5 p.m. In one word I can sum up my experience. The word would be, HORRIBLE. I was greatest by a hostess that was less than enthusiastic. She sat me a n Both in the middle of the restaurant and walk away without asking if I would like a drink and didn't tell me the server's name. So there I waited, and waited, and waited. No hello from anyone, no drink, no anything. After 15 minutes I decided that if I'm not important enough to greet or offer any service, then they didn't deserve my business. Shame on Market Street Grill. It should be named, "Market Street Poor Service". So sad.

Used to be good. Now service is really lacking - I watched 2 Managers pretending to talk around - but would never look at people - I wanted a second glass of wine (at $14 a glass) but could get anyone's attention. Not the server OR the managers. Restaurant was half empty on a Friday night at 7 (that should have told me something!) This USED to be a great place - but no longer. Food was OK, but no better than elsewhere. I spent $60 for my meal with a glass of wine (I was dining alone on business) and I'm afraid I won't be going back.

Love this place! Bring your friends and family here. Amazing seafood and food here. Hope you get Kerry the waiter, he's awesome!! For brunch I got the Maryland Lump Crab Cake with Egg Benedict and Market Street Potatoes. Amazing!! Their orange juice is freshly squeezed and naturally sweet. Come here just for the orange juice! For dinner I got the Ahi Tuna and it was amazing. It's fresh and great flavor. Highly recommend this place.

Service was good. I got the wild Salmon special and felt that it was way over cooked. A business colleague was taking us out to dinner... seems like this is the default business dinner place. So the price is premium. Overall, Good nothing exciting.

Extremely happy with the meal, the server was exceptionally good as well; super friendly but hidden when we didn't need her. More details: lschofield.net/travel/20…

No more fish tacos, which is sad. Instead, I ordered the classic burger (beef, tomato, red onion, lettuce). Great beef flavor. Delicious fries. MSG downtown does a really great job with brunch.

I've been to this location seveal times for brunch and it's always been good. Went again yesterday around 10:30 to grab breakfast/brunch. I ordered my usual, which is the crab cake benedict with the broiled tomato. Hubby ordered the ham and eggs. When our food came out, hubbys was right, but our server brought me the crab omelet. He was very apologetic and offered to re-do it. But, since I had not tried that, I decided to have the omelet. It was very good and had a good amount of crab inside with a bit of cheese and hollandaise sauce on top along with a perfectly ripe avocado slice. My broiled tomato was amazing too, as always. The omelet was large so I wound up taking half home. Our server Johnny was exceptional. Even though he put my order in wrong, he was very attentive, always filling our waters and asking if we needed anything. When he realized my order was wrong he was obviously apologetic and felt bad. He offered me juice complimentary which I declined since I didn't want any. When he was taking our order, he was giving hubby a teasing hard time about which toast he was to order and I kept convincing him to get rye. Well, he didn't but Jonny brought me rye toast with my omelet which told me he was paying attention to the banter. Johnny was friendly, customer service oriented and just a good server. He even gave me a half loaf of bread in my to go bag due to the mishap on the order.

I ate at Market Street Grill a few weeks ago - for a friend's birthday - and was reminded just how far this place has fallen behind with regard to the SLC dining scene. The menu is boring and seemingly never changes. They're still offering the same SAD side dishes they were offering to my parents, and their parents, and their parents in decades long passed. Parsley boiled potatoes? No thanks. On the upside, the fish is usually very fresh. On the many downsides... Service is hit and miss and can be downright terrible (as on our most recent visit). The fish preparations are basic and uninspired and often super greasy/buttery/heavy. The best item on their menu, the seafood cobb salad, is no longer on their menu. Their steaks are mediocre quality and always overcooked. The prices are as high as just about any of the best restos in town, which really puts these guys in some stiff competition. Market Street is just, plain, losing.

Breakfast at Market Street is a real treat. It isn't a "fall of bed and throw a hat on" sort of breakfast and you are treated to waitstaff dressed up, and the majority of customers are in more than flip-flops, tank tops, and cut off shorts. It's refreshing. The menu is limited but the offerings are enough to satisfy most people. An orange glazed cinnamon roll greets you at your table. My preference is the Eggs Benedict which is tops in the State (IMO). Dress up. Go to breakfast. Enjoy a refreshing change.

I had the standard eggs benedict here and it was mediocre at best. The english muffin was burnt and tasted stale. The potatoes on the side were also undercooked and hard. It took about 45 minutes for my table to get our food. The only good thing about this experience is that I got free coffee.

I have been to Market Street several times and have always enjoyed it. Today we had reservations and I liked that as we arrived we were immediately seated. I had a crab cake that was delicious and full of crab not breadcrumbs. Next I had the Market Street salad (for the first time). This salad is loaded with crab and nice sized shrimp. I have always been a fan and will be back for more.

Did the surf and turf here. OMG the lobster tails here are HUGE. So juicy and flavorful too. Highly recommended.

Too long a wait for food, too expensive for the atmosphere and quality of food. $70 for steak and lobster with coffee shop atmosphere. I feel like I'm at Norms or Denny's. Also we had grit...sand? in our steamed clams....waitress said that was impossible. I'm sorry, I can tell when clams have not had the sand rinsed off and I am eating grit! Rude!
